Im not very good at clicking my fingers. I had a science teacher in school, the timid type who could make finger clicking sound like the apocolypse. Yet he had small hands.

Can you click your fingers loud? Have you ever put it to use? Whats the secret?

I used to be able to click my left hand fingers fairly loudly, then I broke my fingers a couple of years ago and havent been able to since.

Cant click the fingers on my right hand at all, which is strange since i'm right handed.

Sometimes I can do it loudly, but sometimes it just comes out sounding like a hedgehog falling into a bucket of custard.
For those times when I do need to make on the spot loud clicks and bangs, I just keep half a coconut in each pocket.

Yep, I can click fingers on both my hands, quite loudly.

It's good for attracting the attention of waiting staff and lounge people.

    I'd say you're popular when you're out?

    Dog eat dog world mate.

In a busy pub/restaurant and I want something, I use all available skills to gain the attention of the staff.

If they are subsequently rude to me, I reduce the tip.

Can click loudly with both hands. Only use it to attract the attention of a dog, or amuse a baby.

Would never and will never use to attract waiting staff.
(DesF I hope you are actually joking)

I can click my fourth, middle and forefingers on both hands. Each of them produce a different sounding click as well. Huzzah for utterly useless skills.

Gently throw your empty glass/bottle in their general direction, works every time .

I can't lick my fingers at all. If it want to make a loud noice with my hands I just clap usually.

Seriously Des, I'd cut that out if I were you.

We probably all have a story like this but, anyway...

A mate of mine used to work in a well known pub that does nice grub and he's been known to stir spit into the food of "clickers" (amongst others).

The old saying "never bite the hands that feeds you" is particularly relevant here (should we be mixing the figurative with the literal here? ah, who cares).

Kudos to Des for doing what we should all be doing. Bar staff and waiting staff have it far too easy in these PC times we live in.

    No, 'fraid not.

It wasn't exactly a habit of his but, yeah, he did it a few times alright.

I've worked somewhere myself and seen the food of rude people been abused too but I'll not go into that.

I've known lads who would wipe burger buns on their ass if they didn't like a customer.

Well maybe it's because of the different distances between said fingers and the pad of my hand, or differing strengths of the fingers, but by Jaysus they make different noises.

i cant click my fingers, are there any group therapy sessions around in which i can come to terms with my life affecting ailment?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

The *secret* is that the sound is just caused by your (for example) middle finger "slapping" off your hand, usually the muscle around the bottom of your thumb. You are using the muscles associated with your middle finger to exert as much force as possible downwards towards the "thumb muscle" that I mentioned earlier, while at the same time using the substantially more powerful muscles around your thumb to hold the middle finger up and build up alot of potential energy. Then when you move your thumb out of the way, the middle finger comes crashing down, hitting the thumb muscle and creating a "clicking" sound. In reality it's has the same effect as when you clap, but it's obviously on a smaller scale. With practice you can do it with no effort and with different fingers, and in all sorts of rhythms. I'm pretty good at clicking

Wow, I just made all that up right there and it almost makes sense!

Pigheads always clicking his fingers. Its easy, anybody who can't click their fingers are usually pretty bad at lovemaking too.

Clicking is fun and is a good way of attracting attention if you're that way inclined. The only time Pighead is wary of doing the finger clicks is when his pet dog Shep is around. The clicking causes him to feel jealous and inadequate and tends to put a strain on our relationship.

I find the clicking of fingers by a person aimed towards a person extremely rude and arrogant. I do not respond to it. Period.

I'm always clicking my fingers. I usually do the double-click (that's two fingers in a row ladies ) on one hand followed by a single-click on the other. Chicks dig guys with big clicks.

I once taught myself how to click my fingers on my left hand when there was a blackout a few years ago. I just mirrored what I was doing with my left really

I can perform the action with my left, but no clicky sound.. just a really damp sound, like a fish hitting cotton wool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,044 ✭✭✭Wossack

can click all the fingers on each hand in a row (the clicks with the little fingers are a bit useless though), but not the index fingers

not too worried about them though, as I reckon theyre impossible to click anyway

cant crack any bone in my body though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

I can click with all fingers on both hands except for the one nearest the thumb. I can't understand how some people can't click their fingers .
