Quickest way to transfer files

Okay I bought a new laptop and it's running vista at the moment, and I have my old laptop which is running XP. I have a lot of files on my old laptop that I wish to put on my new laptop, mainly music and pictures. I don't kn ow which would be the best way of going about this, any help would be greatly appriciated.

A crossover cable
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable
Basically a special network cable you connect the two of 'em with.

You could use the easy transfer wizard (at least I think that's what it's called).
