    Hi all,

we are getting married in Rome in April next year. I've heard that people who are getting married in a church other than their own make a donation to the chapel (their own) they are not getting married in.

So - can anyone advise us on how to go about this, and how much is considered a good donation. Our own church have been great so far with their help, its not that we don't want to pay or anything - just want to know what would be the norm for this kind of thing...

    Thanks in advance

Find the local rates for hiring a very nice spacious room for a couple of hours, add on the cost of equivalent specialist labour for the day, the Church are providing you.
This is what it would cost if the Church was a private enterprise and you had to pay for it.
I can't see any good reason why someone should pay less.
My guess would be 1K min.

I'd have thought about 250 would be generous enough.

Because they are using the services.
The Church provides cheap labour for Weddings and Schools still. Even for people who don't support it

Do you understand the OP's question? They will be paying for the services of the church in Rome which they are using. They are asking how much they should also pay the church in Ireland (I assume) which they will not be using.

And I don't know if you've ever been married in a church, but it is far from cheap.

Well its about 200 euro for the hire of the church.

Yes you do pay the church, I would ask the priest in charge of the church straight out. If hes stays no charge give the cash to the poor or something.

Far as i can remeber the church was the Smallest bill on the day.

Well spotted. I made a mess of my original answer.
Ok my suggestions is to estimate the amount of hours they have given you and multiple it by 10 and then add 50.

That was my initial thought! Though since that, the Priest in the local church (the one we aren't using) has been great. He has to fill out all the forms and that to send off to the chirch in Rome..
