Sony model numbers..

    Okie..

I was out and about looking at new TVs today - and popped into the Sony shop.. Can someone please explain the model numbering system they use?

For example.. there were some 40" models with a KDL40 prefix - fair enough 40 = 40", but after that everything went screwy..

Some were P2530, S3000, T3500.. I asked the dude in the shop - he said it had something to do with the year of release - but he couldn't put a timeline to any of the letters - P,S,T, or whatever other letter..

Anyone got any info on this?

they are the different series. KDL-40 is on all of them (that means the 40" screen). then it goes P,S,T,V,D,W,X in order of increasing quality/features. minimum to look at in 40" is the D series.

not all the series are available in 40" though

    Cheers moe..

You got any info/links to what quality and features go with each letter?

I was looking at the P2530 - which seemed a decent price at €1299.. iirc it had 3xHDMI 2xSCART and a PC input..

Or any other recommendations for a 40" in the €1200-€1500 range?

This thread seems rather indepth on Sony LCD technology.

Near the end of the initial post, there's a rough guide to differences between some of the models (albeit not all).
