KJ Works Mags (or any gas mags)

Ok, so I was testing the range on my KJW Glock 26 and something unusual happened (at least its something I have never seen before).

I pulled the trigger and a HUGE amount of gas was released, another two pulls and the next thing I know is there is gas pouring out of the barrel.

I have noticed that the gas release button is not springing back like it used to. Has the spring gone? Is there a valve problem? What in the hell made my mag bleed gas like a stuck pig?

If it vents out the barrell, not just a burst then the piston could be freezing, then emptying the whole mag out the barrell.

I've seen this happen afew times in CQB at HRTA, no idea what causes it but it appears common enough.

You can usually just lube up the piston and it'll work fine.

Remember the time it happened with N.O.I.P's in my house? And the gas sprayed up into his face? Funny stuff :D

Happened with my Mac when I used it at night and the mag got too cold.

take the slide off, and spray some silicone oil on/around the piston, then run a couple of mags through it, should do the job :)

Silicone Oil is your answer to anything!

Did I read here somewhere that its a factory thing ?

conveniently enough, it can fix alot of problems!

if it moves and it shouldnt => duct tape
if it doesnt move and it should => wd-40

unfortunately wd-40 isn't good for AEGs, so use silicone oil :)

In that case I propose sending a box of wd-40 to An Post. Maybe it'll get them to move a bit faster.

Indeed I know from working on aircraft, your 5 best friends are anti-vibration string, wd-40, silicon, ambersil and defect tape.

Back on topic, the same thing happened the other week to one of my Maruzen mags, it seemed to have mechanically stuck in place so I hit it with some light silicone oil. Not the spray, just from a dropper bottle. Worked fine after. I doubt freezing would be the problem, it happened on my second shot. Besides, surely the o-rings would have been able to tolerate the temperature change of up to a full mag emptying in a few seconds given that's their purpose.

Edited because half the post disappeared.

Question bout my deagle mag. Sometimes it leaks, sometimes it doesnt. Ive only put about 10-15 mags worth through it. After i fill it sometimes you can hear it making a little leak sound if u put yer ear to it. You cant see any gas visable comeing out anywhere. TBH the only reason i noticed it was leaking was i filled it and came back an hour later to go shooting cd's and it was empty! Maybe my neighbours are syphoning my gas

Possibly a design flaw in the mag?

For the first time today I have heard "leaking" from my KJW Mag
from one of my GBB mags.

I filled with propane and as usual gave a spray of Si oil to mag and
gun before emptying the mag. There was still some gas left in the
mag after I fired the last BB and when I took the mag out I found gas
seemed to be leaking!!!! Maybe its the colder weather as it did not happen
before and my mags are always well lubed with Si Oil and spray.

Now that sounds like an o-ring problem, I'd say pop the valve out and check they have split or degraded. They may even be a bad size and may require replacing.

This is all a bit freaky! a mate of mine said he was firing his kjw g23 THIS AFTERNOON!! pulled the trigger, emptied all the gas out through the barrell! So I take it, its generally a tempreture issue with the mags? So if I'm reading this right, is it the valve in the mag that freezes and sticks open, or is it the piston in the piece that sticks open? He's a bit stressed as he's had a few other issues with this piece, first few times he fired it the slide would pull itself of the rail on one side and jam:D altough we think he may have been over filling it, as when he only fiied it for between 4-8 secs it was fine:rolleyes::( so, is silicone the solution to all his woes?? appreciate any advise guys:)

    From http://www.airsoftforum.com

How the Gas Propels the BB

The gas in your magazine is stored in a compressed state, which turns it into a liquid with a little gas at the top of the magazine. When the trigger is pulled, a small amount of the gas is released. By compressing the gas, the manufacturer removed energy from the gas. When a small amount of gas is released from the magazine, it absorbs energy in the form of heat resulting in instant expansion, propelling the BB out the end of the barrel and cycling the slide on GBB models. There is no chemical reaction between the released gas and the air or gun, but the released gas does take in energy from its surroundings. This sudden increase in energy excites the gas molecules and makes them fly around faster, which is responsible for the expansion. This is also why the gun and magazine can get very cold and even freeze during rapid shooting. The gas takes the energy out of the gun and mag, resulting in the temperature of the gun dropping.

This is why gas guns don’t work in the cold. If the gun and magazine don’t have enough energy (heat) in them, the gas cannot absorb energy and therefore cannot expand. This means you cannot shoot

Gas turns to liquid when cold... May help towards an explaination...

sounds like a leaky valve alright, i had this problem with one of mine, took the valve out and put some grease on the o-rings to give a better seal, worked fine since.
