    Hi,

I'm taking the GF for a surprise w/e to Stockholm in November. We're flying out on the Fri evening and returning Sun afternoon with SAS. We're staying two nights in the Rica Kungsgatan hotel. I have a dinner reservation for saturday night in Gondolen overlooking the Old Town but I am considering changing it to Restaurant J on Nacka Strand.

I have never been to Sweden before and got all of these off the internet. We don't have much time there so I would say we will just have a stroll around town and do a bit of shopping. Nothing too hectic. Our hotel offers free bicycle hire too. Anyone got any tips?

    Thanks,

    B.

Bring clothes and lots of em, it'll be bloody cold.

Get the arlanda express into town, cheaper and faster!

Spy bar is pretty cool, but they're strict getting in so dress cool and dont be too ropey

    loads o pubs on Jarlsgatan

ah ya bring herself to ahlens (shopping)

not sure if there's any more cruises going on but if they're are they can be pretty nice!

Went there and did the thousand island ferry tour for the day. Bit expensive and not sure if they run it in November

Not sure if details are on the Stockholm website http://www.stockholmtown.com/

Ice bar is touristy but hey when in Rome etc

Old town is nice and the Castle is again touristy changing of guard

Go to the Vasa Museum not bad

Shopping ok GF was not too impressed also not impressed when I brought here to local football match

    Enjoy

Our flight arrives in around 11pm. I'm guessing that the central station will be similar to most European countries (think Connolly/Busaras) in that you don't want to be around there at that time of night. I was thinking of paying a few bob extra to have a driver meet us at the airport?

    Here is our hotel:

What do you reckon? Gets good reviews, although some rooms have no windows.

It's up to yourself really, I think it's about 45/50 euro by taxi into town from Arlanda, think arlanda is about 30 notes return so it's all the same I suppose? Stockholm is definitely one of the safest cities I've lived in, so I wouldn't be worried about Central station!

Cool. I've already spent close to 700 yoyos with all these reservations. Better not lose the run of myself. Arriving at that time of night I think we may spring for the taxi though.

Another option is to get the equivalent of the AirCoach from Arlanda
    into Central Station.

    http://www.flygbussarna.se/en/default.asp

Takes about 40 minutes and costs around 10 euro (there are
plenty of ATMs in the airport if you need SEK on arrival).
It's only a short stroll along Kungsgatan from the bus station to hotel.

If you get a taxi there is now a standard fare for Arlanda to Central
Stockholm which works out cheaper than the old meter fare.

Thanks for all the tips lads. Keep them coming.

That Aircoach thing may work out.

I got the Aircoach directly to Central Station, arrived at 1130 I think, got a taxi from Central Station straight to the Hotel, all in all it worked out pretty cheap. Stockholm on the whole seems to be very safe at night - from what I've seen.
