Is it worth getting a flat screen for gaming?

    Hi all,

I have been using a DELL 19" CRT for the past few years now and its great but fricken huge! I takes up half my desk.

So I was thinking of going for a flat screen, specifically the Samsung 20" LCD Syncmaster 206BW However as I play the odd game here and there I always avoided these kind of monitors due to ghosting etc. I am hearing though that these monitors have improved.

Has anybody got this monitior or use something similar for games etc

Flat screens have gotten a lot better in recent times and ghosting is no longer an issue as long as the responce time is low. A responce time of 8ms or less will eliminate any ghosting. I don't know what that monitor is like but I have a samsung monitor and it is brilliant.

The only issue you may encounter with a decent modern flat screen monitor is that your computer may not be able to game at its native resolution. For instance, my 20" widescreen's resolution is 1680x1050. This makes my poor PC sweat in newer games. You can run the game at a lower resolution but that usually makes things look rubbish as the monitor scales it up to fill the screen.

I have been using flat screens for gaming since 25ms screens came out, and i never noticed any ghosting at all. And the benifit of it taking up 1/4 of the room and using less power is also good :)

25ms? Jaysus! I wonder if I can find a video online of somebody demonstrating it.
