New phone advice? Currently have N73

Hi. Looking for some advice, I’ve been using theN73 for the last few months. When it is working ok its a great phone, however I’ve had lots of problems with it TBH. (To list a few: I have to regularly turn it off and on again about 6/7 times a day in order to get it to work properly, I cannot hear the person calling me or they cannot hear me, phone drops calls, phone freezes, the volume button does not work at the phone is stuck at the lowest sound level making it difficult to hear anyone, the list goes on...and on  )

I’m wondering did I just get a dud model, or do these problems occur with all N73’s?

I have to change my handset because this one is DRIVING ME MAD, and I’m looking for options.

I have become used to using the internet on the go, and being constantly able to check my emails and I don’t think I can live without those features anymore.

Should I get another N73 and hope the problems are just with my particular handset, or should I get a different phone??

Ideally I would like a phone with all the features of the N73, but without the headaches!!

Did you check the generic firmware product code or only the operators product code?

i have the n73 with some problems too!

it started to turn itself on/off throughout the day, and it freezes sometimes between the camera/gallery function. and the middle button (joystick?) fell off!

i bought insurance so am thinking of asking them to replace it.

There is an earlier thread about this with a 3phone. If your operator firmware version is buggy, there are DIY ways of upgrading firmware to the latest generic version. Alternatively send phone to the Nokia Service Centre yourself and request a generic firmware upgrade.
Don't waste your time going back to the shop as it will take longer and two journeys.
Take a look at websites like allaboutsymbian.com for specific advice

    Thabks for the replys.

I've looked on the nokia web site discussions board. From what I can see there is an updated version of firmware available but just not for my product code?

On the nokia website I can only get the firmware for my product code - which is linked to Vodafone and therefore Vodafone firmware.

Is there a way to get generic firmware? Don't I need to use my product code to access firmware?

If I go into a vodafone store will they update it for me?

Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me.

Is there a way to get generic firmware? yes
Don't I need to use my product code to access firmware? Possible to change code
If I go into a vodafone store will they update it for me? They'll just keep it for over a week and send it back with same firmware version,

Send phone to the Nokia Service Centre yourself and request a generic firmware upgrade.

    Nazoil,

Cheers Mate ;) . Some good advice there. I'll check out where the nearest Nokia service centre is. hopefully that'll do the trick!

I used the nokia centre in dawson street and they spent two hours flashing my phone with the same firmware for some reason after i told them that the sole reason for flashing was to get rid of the 3 firmware. any time i've dealt with them i've found them to treat customers as if they were their sworn enemies. So try somewhere else

@rugbug, i realise this is probably a bit late but if you're thinking of claiming on insurance and you think its not a fixable fault, like a button falling off, don't tell them its damaged, tell them you lost it, otherwise they'll try to repair it. It'll cost you the excess fee but you won't have to wait ages for a phone thats not actually fixed
