Are the great games on Wii finally emerging?

Got a wii last christmas, and tbh, despite being a bit of a nintendo fanboy in the past I've barely played the damn thing. Anyone I know who owns a wii seems to be in the same situation aswell, all claiming the lack of a really great games library being the obvious problem. NTM the overabundance of minigame collections, and little great third party support.

With Smash Bros, Paper Mario, Metroid, and Galaxy already out or due out in the next while is this drought finally over? Or is this just an exciting few games briefly breaking the uneventful release stream?

I got the machine on release and i have like 3 proper games (Zelda,Red Steel and Blazing Angels)for it, (sports and play dont count). I end up playin the cube games on it more because the choice wasnt there yet. I know its still a new machine but paper mario has been released in america since about april, metroid came out at the end of august. Ok RE4 i got on the cube and cudnt justify buyin new again (if it appears cheaper in a bit it will be hard to resist) but I agree that the quality games are beginning to emerge. Cant wait for metroid and smash bros cant be bad, one on the cube was fantastic :D

I'm hoping so; i picked up tiger woods 07 and sonic a few months ago and hated 'em both. The former cos of the finnicky controls and the latter...dunno...perhaps it's an age thing, but i didn't like how it played compared with the old skool sonic games. anyhoo, went into Gamestop on monday with both of 'em and got a credit for €60 and as i looked at the shelves, there was bog all i thought would grab me. I happened to get Super Paper Mario as a pressie a few weeks ago, so that wasn't on the wish-list, but i sooo agree with the OP; there's a glut of games if you're of limited attention span, a sports freak or not ethically opposd to buying a game that you already got for the PS2!

Well I suppose what I mean to ask is what games are there to look forward to after the abovementioned have been released? Nintendo need to release a steady stream of good/brilliant games rather than the mediocre lot thus far if tehy want to keep the majority of wii owners happy.

Didn't it take a while for the DS to build up a decent catalog aswell? Until developers realised a) how to use the tech properly and b) that every gamer and their granny has bought one.

I'm hoping it'll be the same with Wii. They've certainly sold like hot-cakes and it was always expected that it would take a while for developers to work out what works on the new controls, and get over the assumption that Nintendo will be the under-dog in terms of console sales.

In saying that though, it is just a hope. I don't tend to pay too much attention to where the industry is going or why. TBH, it'll probably take me the best part of the next six months just to get through those four games you mentioned (partially lack of time, partially lack of disposable income atm), and in the meantime I'm more than happy playing the classics on VC.

I guess I'm just not 'hardcore' anymore. One good, fun does of Nintendo magic every couple of months or so suits me fine. I think I'm probably the ideal Nintendo customer.

Yep, and about bloody time too!

having said that, there aren't a lot of third party titles that I'm insterested in (bar the fantastic looking "no more heroes")

A largely overlooked game i find is ' The Godfather ' which i think is a must have title for the wii.

    Wii Must haves

Resident Evil 4 , so glad i never finished it on ps2. It was made for the Wii.
    Smash Soccer
Wii Sports i 10 points from being pro on everything.

    ehh ehh ehh

Hopefully that list grows by xmas.

yeah nintendo was always great for christmas - the family gathering round the tv - all the tipsy uncles musing "shure ishn't it incredelible wat dey can do nowadaysh wit dem computergames!!"

What's this No More Heroes game that's been mentioned? I haven't been really watching the release dates as much.

    No More Heroes - IGN
In this adventure game directed by Goichi Suda (of Killer 7 fame), you play as Travis Touchdown, a normal guy (with an otaku geek streak to him) who wins a Beam Katana through an online auction and uses the weapon to start a new career as a professional killer. One day, an assassin named Helter Skelter appears before Travis and the two face off in a battle. Travis emerges victorious and finds himself in the presence of Silvia Christel, a mysterious French woman who claims to be an agent with the UAA. Silvia gives Travis official rank of 11 in the organization. Now, it's up to you to become #1.

No More Heroes takes place in the city of Santa Destroy, and you are free to explore the town to your liking, taking on missions large and small to collect money and purchase new weapons as you work up towards the 10 main killing contracts. Gameplay is all about using your Beam Katana (via Wii remote) to defeat enemies.

This is probably the third party game I'm waiting on most!

Although it doesn't look quite as mad as Killer7, that'll probably help the sales a little! :D

It fell short of being fantastic IMO, but still gave the feeling that the developers were onto a winning formula, and the next game in that vein that they made would be something truely special.
NMH is going to rock, I can feel it in my bones...

Just got Super Paper Mario and turned on the Wii for the first time since February. I've been a diehard Nintendo fanboi since the NES, but the Wii is trying my patience. I might just bite the bullet and buy a 360 for my console needs emot-psypop.gif

I have quite a few Wii games and I am in two minds about the range so far.
Too many have sought to shoe horn Wiimote dependant moves into gameplay that are just as easily done by button press, like setting the demolition charges on COD3, too fiddly, and daft. On the other hand the moves on Metroid Prime 3 are perfectly integrated into the gameplay, twisting looks and yanking armour off of flying enemies.
All that said, the good stuff is finally here, Super Paper Mario, Resi Evil 4, Godfather, Trauma Centre, My SIms, Zelda, tons of good stuff on the way before christmas, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and not to mention a great lineup on the VC with NeoGeo games on the way too!
I think, for the price, the Wii is pretty good value, fingers crossed 3rd party development will keep pace with the wonderful stuff Ninty is releasing.

Here's looking forward to MarioKart and FZero on Wii.

Hope AM2 do it again. F-zero GX was magnificent. Hope we see a sequel, GX sold a pitiful amount of copies.

Same here--I bought the Wii last Christmas and to be totally honest it hasnt been switced on in months bar the odd game of drunken Tennis :).Too many "party type" games out for it.Played one of them, played them all is my opinion on the sheer amount of **** kiddie games out on it.Its nearly a year on since it was released and Im still holding out for that killer game that makes me want to start playing the Wii again and hopefully Metroid or Mario will be the ones that do it.
    /Rant over

Bought a 360 a few weeks back and definately recommend the combo of the two for anyone who owns a Wii.
