I have never been scared by a movie and I’m looking for that movie that will truly petrify me. I've sat with friends throughout movies both at home and at the cinema where they are freaked by the movie - they are also huge movie buffs so they have advised me a load of movies but none of which have scared me.

So can you guys recommend me a few?

Here are some that do nothing for me:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining, The Thing, Jaws, The Exorcist, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, The Ring, The Grudge, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho etc..

I dunno, maybe you're just not scared by obvious fiction?

maybe you oughta go for a ****ed up feeling, rather than fear..

Oldboy would bea good movie, and save the green planet .. not quite as ****ed up, but still pretty twisted.

    --edit

I was looking through my dvds to see if I could reccomend anything, and I thought about the eye... but then I remembred, while I enjoyed it.. it didn't scare me in the slightest. I get startled easily, so it's good for that... but as for fear, or being scared... didn't do anything for me

only film that's really terrified me was the japanese ring, I'm only just getting over it in the last few years

I know I always say this but Visitor Q if freaked out is what you want.

Try The Mothman Prophecies. it scared me because it was based on true events.

Book a camping trip on your own in the middle of nowhere, then watch Deliverence. I guarantee you'll be ****ting yourself by the end of the film!

Whats with these threads already? How many is this now??

OP you have proved to us all you're well 'ard. Well done.

you need to make the experience creepy to saviour it. Watch a film on your own in the dark on a big screen with surround sound. No distractions, no runnin out for coke and crisps. Just you and the film.

    It makes the difference.

I do feel sorry for folks who arn't scared by scary movies as It's half the fun. There is nothing like feeling the heart beat rise at an honest scare.
Or feeling the creepy factor Build till your missus is behind the couch.

It'd be like going to a comedy and not laughing when it's actually funny.

Wolf Creek is good for it's based on a true story feel
The Decent is good for that Claustrophobic feeling
Hostel while not a great movie has a few less than comfortable scenes

    Agreed.

Though if creepy in the traditional sense is what you're looking for, see if you can find an old British tv movie called The Woman In Black.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098672/
May be difficult to find a copy, but its certainly worth seeing if you can.
Easily the creepiest "ghost story" type film I've seen.

'Lost Highway' and 'Mullholland Drive' from David Lynch for me.

Not your typical 'Scary Movies' but numerous scenes in both scared the pi$$ out of me.

If you have any common sense its not possible to be scared by a film.

Only scene i close my eyes for and banish from my memory is the japs eye (ho ho :D ) scene in Hostel Part I.

If you want scary try About Schmidt.... Nobody needed to see Kathy Bates topless in that film. *shudders*

Watched the Dario Argento film Suspiria for the first time a couple of nights ago and it absolutely put the sh1ts up me:eek:

Really atmospheric horror with some genuinely disturbing moments and some great death scenes. If you have not seen it I recommend you hunt a copy down right away.

One thing though, I have never ever ever been scared of a film while sitting around with a bunch of friends. I really believe if you want to be scared by a movie you have to watch it alone in a darkened room:) .

Also Jacobs ladder, while not really a horror film, has some genuinely scary moments in it!

Again it depends on what you mean by 'scary'. A slasher flick with plenty of blood and gore does not scare me. The Mothman prophecies however did send a chill up my spine.

Irreversible 'scared' me because it reminded me of how a single, normal night could potentially turn into a terrible, tragic event! That film freaked me out!

I like the suggestion of watching 'Deliverance' while alone camping :D
Just being camping in the middle of nowhere can sometimes spook you out...nevermind the thoughts of some yokel using you in the same wasy as he would a sheep!!

Good call. Just listening to that film's score should do the job.

I would agree with what's being said about watching a film alone... I don't care how scary a film could possibly be, you watch it with friends, it's not going to be a scary experience. You do have to be in the right atmosphere for it to effect you, and that goes with all horror films.

Suggesting films to watch is going to be pointless if you watch it with a load of mates.
