In my playlist I have a collection of podcasts, but for some reason they're registering as music. This doesn't bother me, but what does is that it sorts them as follows:

    episode 10
    episode 11
    episode 2
    episode 3
    episode 4
    episode 5
    episode 6
    episode 7
    episode 8
    episode 9
    episode 12
    episode 13
    etc

can someone tell me how to make them register as podcasts, and how to make 10 and 11 go in the right place?

Off the top of my head, iTunes could be looking on the first two podcasts as being music tracks 1-0 and 1-1 as distinct from 10 and 11. Have you checked the track names to ensure that they are correctly labelled in relation to the other tracks?

'Tis ok, I found out how to use the podcast feature
    Thanks anyway!

New question, instead of making a new thread I'll post here.

Is it possible to make normal mp3 files come up under another section?
eg, I have an audiobook as an mp3 file from a while ago, is it possible to make it go under the audiobook category instead of music?

Same with TV shows; is it possible to make various mp4 files go under TV shows instead of movies?

    Go to the file info.
You can set the category there.

Yeah that's how I do it too. Also once you've done that you can create Smart Playlists to filter your media into categories you like to nominate.

Ok, that worked for sorting my movie files, thanks!

what about audio though? I couldn't find an option like that for audio files.

just back to the original question that i know has been answered but if you preceed the 1-9 episodes with a 0 i.e. episode 01/02/03... etc. then it will sort itself by name.

Silly Q, did you try make a playlist of the relevant files?

Could you explain exactly what it is you're trying to do ?

I'm assuming that you obtained the podcasts from a source other than iTunes, is that right ? In that case they can't be added to the Podcasts list on iTunes unless you want to edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file in the <username>/Music/iTunes/ folder. I wouldn't recommend it though.

Your best option is to right click the file in iTunes window (or select a group of files using the "Shift" key) and go to Get Info then change the Genre to Podcasts. (If you're selected a number of files you will get a warning you are about to change a lot of files at once - select the appropriate reply). Create a Smart Playlist now and set it to include files of the Podcast genre.

The same principle applies to whatever filetype you're adding to the iTunes library. Set the Genre to Movies for all movie type files then create a Smart Playlist for that Genre.

To sort out the audio files simply create a Smart Playlist which excludes all genres that aren't audio, for example to exclude Podcasts and Movies:

    Create a Smart Playlist which:

    Match The Following Rule:
Genre > Does Not Contain > Movie
    +
Genre > Does Not Contain > Podcast
+ <whatever other rule you need to exclude or include genres etc.>

    Enable Live Updating too.

Now when you drag files to the iTunes Window be sure to drop them on the Library List at the top. Your files will now be sorted to your preferences.

If I've totally missed the point of your query please clarify what it is you want to do.

What I wanted to do was put some of my audio files under the audiobooks section.

So does anyone know how to make an audio file appear in the Audiobooks section?
    Google still fails me.

Audiobooks have to be bought either from the iTunes Store, or from Audible.com and be in m4b (iTunes Store) or .aa (Audible Spoken Word Format) to be recognised as audiobooks. Otherwise they are just added as music files. In this case, it might be better to create a dedicated Playlist for them so that you can find them more easily.

    Has anyone tried MarkAble?
