Dunno what to make of it, stylus control and a sequel. Im a big fan of the series but am a little sceptical of the new release. I hope im proven wrong. Anybody seen gameplay?

The fact that we have never had a bad zelda game from Nintendo or Flagship, the rave reviews from japanese publications and how awesome the videos look I doubt if it's anything less potential game of the year material.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭animaX

I've played a bit of the jap version. Not much though, didnt want to ruin it. Its really good. Dont worry, the control system works. Its so cool looking at those wind waker-esque explosions on the ds!!

It would be coming out the same day I start my final year of college.

I can see the future, my honours degree is slowly turning into a pass one.

    How dare you!

Admittedly the game is very strange until you get to the first dungeon but after that you realise what the game expects of you and are used to how it plays and ends up being one of the best and unique gaming experiences.

i might have judged it harshly but i got frusterated with the time limit. was playin ocarina too and lovin it so just put it down and forgot about it. have played all the gameboy zeldas too and enjoyed them. minish cap was a nice touch.

I totally agree. I was a bit of a pain in the beginning when you were the deku shrub but after that it was amazing. Possibly the best zelda game i've ever played!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭writetojd

thats what i mean. your runnin round with a timer ticking. I got mariokart with the zelda disc free with it, unfortunately didnt own a n64, and tried the games on it. Loved ocarina but didnt give majoras mask a fair go. still play ocarina, fantastic game.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,383 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Majoras mask takes a while to get used to but once you get over that you really start to appreciate just how good the game is and how genius the time limit is. There is a real fish out of water feeling at the beginning of the game but it's well worth playing through it. It's got the best soundtrack and storyline of any zelda so far.

Can't wait for Phantom Hourglass, the touchscreen will add a lot to the usual zelda items that are getting a little stale and hopefully we will get some new original ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭writetojd

I cant wait for it, just hoped the controls wouldnt be like animal crossing since its stylus controlled too, and i know its not an action game but you get the idea. Still should be good for a good few hours fun anyway, tie up the wind waker story too.

Majora's Mask is probably the best Zelda game! I'll admit it isn't like any of the others but that's what makes it brilliant. I don't think there are any other games like it. If there are please tell me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

I think Phantom Hourglass looks excellent and I've seen and heard only good things about it. I think going back to Wind Waker stye graphics for the DS was a good idea and from the sound of it the touch screen controls, like with the boomerang, are going to be a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to it.

Has anyone played Tingles Rosy Rupeeland? It's sort of but not really a Zelda game and I was surprised to see it in Smyths yesterday because I didn't even know it was out yet! I want to know if it's any good but I can't seem to find a review of it anywhere.

(and yes, Majora's Mask is amazing, I hope it's released on Virtual Console)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,570 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Rupeeland is an OK game, but nothing more. It has a really annoying game mechanic where rupees are used for everything. You can't talk to people unless you pay them (and you don't know how much to give them). Run out of rupees and its game over.

Again just posting to say "Ye must be mad!"

Majoras Mask is my favourite Zelda game, and I've played them all save for the philips cd thingy ones, but the less said about them the better...

    THE CDI GAMES NEVER HAPPENED!!!!

I must change the charter to include an automatic banning for mentioning CDI zelda games :)

owned windwaker but never able to finish it....i remember i end up collecting the remaining triforce shard...

from my first zelda Link's Awakening on gameboy(ye,my first is not A Link to the past),till now,i have played all zelda that available on the market...

and i now officially declare that i never like the fashion of the windwaker/diminish cap/phantom hourglass style zelda...:o

they somehow pull out my gaming soul when i play them...:o

    i m so sorry...link...:(

Now that this thread has mutated into an all-zelda thread i have to mention Zelda: Parallel Worlds. Its absolutely amazing! It a mod of A Link to the Past. Completely new story, new map, new dungeons, new weapons and it is really hard. A must for any hardcore zelda fan. I've just about cleared it. One more crystal to go!
    Google and you'll find it

Same here, up half the night and as soon as I got up I started playing it. So far it's excellent. It seems a little too easy though, but who cares :D

Been playing this now for the last few hours. Very impressed. I was also skeptical of the control system when I first heard about it. They really pulled it off though.

Enjoying it more than Twilight Princess actually.

Mine should be on the way (real, legal copy :p ). Can't wait, I've heard only good things, and I loved Wind Waker (especially the style) so I'm sure I'll love this.

Is it true that pretty much all the puzzles have their solutions forced on you by NPCs? That kind of carry on ruined Okami for me, and I really want Phantom Hourglass to be great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,570 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

It is great, but Zelda veterans will feel like their hand is held a bit too much.

I know what you mean. Are you far into it? Maybe it gets rock hard after 10 hours or so...

Oh, commuting on a bus + puzzles/gameplay that involve using the mic =

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 461 ✭✭markf909

Only played an hour so far but im loving the Richard E Grant "Withnail" pirate guy:D

I hope it doesnt involve the mic at any stage as I too only play on the train.

It does use the mic and not long into the game too...

Today it required 3 or 4 "coughs" to get passed one bit. Luckily enough the bus was pretty empty :D

I would be at the 3 or 4 coughing part now, fairly easy so far, hate the way you see arrows or bombs in a shop then dont get them for ages :(

Best game yet on DS!!!! Everyone who has a DS buy this game you wont regret it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭fortuneg

At the ice temple on the third map now and i have to say i'm quite disappointed with the puzzles, they really are just so damn easy.
There's no satisfaction out of solving a good head scratcher, you just find the puzzle then do a little search around for the stone tablet that tells you how to solve it and progress.

Still a fantastic game though, just a little too easy!

The large mammal was good but sussed it easy enough.

Best DS game ever tbh control is perfect who would have thought you didnt need buttons.

Finally got a couple of bomb bags today. Oh the joy of being able to carry explosives...

Still no sign of a bow though!

Only real gripe I have at the moment (and it's a small one at that) is that it doesn't show you how long you've been playing. Or am I just blind?

Im lovin this game. Cant decide now between puzzle quest or zelda, think zelda has the slight edge. Damn it gonna get sucked in as usual. Chibi robo is comin out soon on the ds as well. Too many good titles comin out. Same with the wii. Good time to be a gamer :D
