Microsoft Excel Query

Right, I'm wondering if the following is possible in Excel.

On one sheet I've a collection of data that is totaled every 6 rows. Now I'm looking to summarise this data in another sheet, by picking out a cell in every 6th row and copying it to this 2nd sheet

My idea was to do the drag formatting (the black box bottom right of a selected cell) and drag down, so that the format of every 6th cell would be recognised. This doesnt seem to work, if you do the dragging having highlighted two cells of the correct format it gives you double each required cell ie 1 7 7 13 13 etc

Any ideas how to correct this, or another way of doing the same thing. Note that the data is added to regularly, so I would need to have a system whereby a drag/etc catches new cells easily

i dont think you can do that.

i think you have to manually add each cell to the second sheet, there's no click and drag formula for what you want to do because essentially you are selecting random cells.

it may be possible though, if you add the first two or three cells to the sheet and highlight them, then click and hold the bottom of the cell (the little black box) and excel may be able to recognise what you're trying to do. but only if the cells on the original sheet are uniform

I don't really under stand what you are trying to do. Google Sub totals though. Might help.

As for the formatting... Copy..Paste special. Formats.

If you link to the first 2 cells in the second sheet, and then shade them and drag them down, it should link to every sixth cell.
