Don't think it would look good on canvas.
It would be an expensive process & has a poor chance of success.
You'd be better off sharpening it in Photoshop & printing it in a reasonably large format.

The subject is out of focus in the photo so unfortunately very little can be done... there's a lot of noise in it too (maybe a conversion into B&W would work)

Printing on a very small canvas might be okay.

I'll give photoshop a lash and see what comes out :)

B&W should improve it as there is no important colour in the shot.

you can see my (rather crude) attempt at it on my flickr page in a moment... I didn't use Noise ninja since the grass loses all sharpness once you bring down the noise levels - the B&W one looks better than the colour one in my opinion.

very nice in B&W but i really want to produce it the same as in the page of the US Book, I think i will order a large print maybe a3 of both b&W and the original colour sharpened in photoshop..

    Thanks

I agree with aidankk...maybe keep the colour in the jersey..the great thing about teh KK jersey is that its instantly recognisable and you can pick it out straight away from a load of jerseys...try masking it off in photoshop and just keeping the black and amber

Jeez your colour photoshop work is miles better than mine, much sharper, nice work.
Im going to have another go..

remove the two asteriks* (if i take em out then the pic appears)

ok so I had a quick go at it
    Heres what I did roughly:
3 levels of sharpening with High Pass Sharpening at 0.8,2 & 4 radius, using a mask to only sharpen the child..
2 Exposure layers, child & grass
Levels, curves, hue/saturation, x2. one for the child and one for the grass.
A little bit of burning/dodging on the face to tone it down.
And a little noise removal on the grass.

It could do with a bit of fine tuning on the masks, and playing around with the opacity a bit as well.

As for printing, hmm, the photo may do at A4 size but I think A3 is pushing it a bit. If you want the PSD file for this let me know, it's running at 107mb.

you'd be surprised with what you can do in photo shop and a lot of patience
RAW Image on the left, focus was a few inches off the eye's, f value set too low
B&W will generally save most slightly "blurry" shots, oohh the the flames begin

Jeez your better at photshop than me..no point me tryin to help you lol

i think if you Flatten the image then the file size should drop considerably. be careful though once you flatten it you wont be able to undo any changes you made...so try save it as another file name

Dam these are good results, im going to order a photoshop book asap..

The psd file would be class if you can get it to me Muineach..

Think ill still go for the a3 just to see what its like, i dont mind if its a bit blurry at that size, as the original in the Book is also blurry..
    ...

Note to Self, never ever use an compact camera in the dark again:mad:   .. I had an olympus 5040wz with and external flash, that had a full memory card and in a rush i decided to use the ixus:( :(

Just curious what do you mean by the Book ?

The PSD compressed down to about 55mb and thanks to eircom that will take 50 minutes or so to upload grr, anyway I'll PM you with the link when its uploaded.

it got a full page in the "US" book from the ray darcy show, and was in the paper as an example of the photos from the book, along with being discussed on radio as an example of why Kilkenny are unbeatable year after year:rolleyes: , 18m old child hurling already..:D :D The caption was "Reared to it - 18 months old Evan O'Hara"

here is a pretty good tutorial for converting color pics to black and white.

I've posted it on here before.
