    Guys,

I am a complete noobie to this DTT / freeview / digituner world ...
I have gone through the other posts and I am lost (yes I am a techno idiot!)

Most posts seem to deal with set top boxes and PC & laptops ...

    My question is this ...
Is there any point to me buying one of these aerials I saw in Currys / Dixons etc (they all seemed to be the brand "One for All") to receive the freeview digital trials that are meant to be going on? I have just bought a new Samsung 40" LCD tv with a built in Digital Tuner, I live in Clondalkin (Dublin 22).

I tried an old set of "bunny ears" and picked up nothing whatsoever when I tried to tune in on the digituner ...

Any help would be mosted appreciated !

    Thanks,
    Darth

The DTT tranmissons in Dublin and Louth are a trial or some will say a complete waste of time and money. This so called trial finishes in the summer 2008. Presently it looks as though when the trial ends there will be no DTT in Ireland for the forseeable future.

Volunteers were issued with Digital receivers by the company carrying out the trial and I seriously doubt you will get one now.

You would be better of to wait for something definite to happen.

He pointed that there is an inbuilt tuner on his telly

A rule of thumb I heard as regards whether what type of aerial needed is see whether the analogue TG4 you get on CH55 is clear using for example a rabbits ear aerial .If it is you should get the 4 Irish sations that are in the clear

I've found that if you can even get colour on Ch 55 then Mux 1 is no problem. I can receive it when TG4 is in black and white, but it's susceptible to the odd breakup by that stage.

I live just a stone's throw from you and can get perfect DTT pictures with just a short length of wire plugged into the aerial socket at the back of my set-top box. So you shouldn't have any problems using your 'bunny ears', unless your home is next to a tall building that's blocking the signals from Three Rock.

You don't need a "digital" (There is no such thing) or amplified aerial. A plain metal one (avoid one-for-all aeriels) in attic or better outdoors for the correct channels is best.

You need this for decent analogue reception anyway.
