False economy and non-sickly supplements

I've been using ON strawberry flaroured gold standard whey protein in a PWO drink, mixed with glucose. Apart from that I've been eating large amounts of proteinous food to maintain a high protein intake while training.

It occurred to me that this is false economy. The 5lb tub of protein cost 25euro (bought from easygainer ages ago). It's about 80% protein so it contains about the same amount of protein as roughly 6kg of chicken breast.
Similarly, I eat cottage cheese before going to bed. This is about 10% protein, and costs 6.50/kg, so that is equivalent to 65 euro per kg of protein roughly.
So I'm spending more money on food than I am saving on supplements: It's false economy.

With that in mind I made myself a couple of milkshakes with the strawberry whey protein. I find it really really sickly. It's fine in a PWO drink, but I would find it a trial to consume it much more frequently than that.
I remember using a natural flavoured (unflavoured) protein supplement before, and that was fine; not sickly in the same way, and I could flavour it myself.

So I'd like to get a whey protein supplement and a casein protein supplement that taste ok basically - preferably unflavoured.

    Any recommendations?

You want unflavoured whey and casein that tastes okay

Have you ever tasted "unflavoured" whey? Bllluuuuugggh!

    However, http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-supplies/unflavoured-whey/

I think it was the natural flavour Designer protein. It really was nice!
Any flavoured ones that taste nice would be ok too

I got mine really cheap at www.bulkpowders.co.uk unflavoured whey, casein is about twice the price. I never bothered with caesin, I have heard just mixing whey with milk is a good substitute for caesin. Also buying 1 type means you get a better bulk discount.

    Thanks
I read on this forum recently a lot of talk of overseas orders being delayed by customs for long periods. Is this likely to happen? Or has it stopped/unlikely to happen with things bought inside the EU?

I think it was more to do with BB.com orders and people trying to bring in things like trib. I can't see there being any trouble with just protein and it's from the EU as well.

I freely admit to being a NutritionX whore so this shouldn't come as a surprise..

I love big whey. Strawberry or vanilla are my personal faves. I can drink both without gagging. I've heard really good things about hte berry blast flavour, and the majority of people LOVE choc mint (even tho I wasn't a fan).

    Check em out here http://pronutrition.ie/products.php?action=product&id=6

Yeah BerryBlast is by far the best tasting whey I've ever had. Closely followed by chocmint (when mixed with milk)

Being unflavoured means it is cheaper and you can use it wherever you want without the flavour taking over other ingredients. So again you save because you get a bulk discount, I was getting 20kg bags rather than several different flavours. You can buy separate flavourings from bulkpowders too, which means you could add just the right amount you want.

I add tesco strawberry milkshake mix and milk & ice and it is lovely, I drink it a lot just because it is so nice. Certainly do not have to force it down. Pineapple juice is good too- for the sugars PWO

I also add unflvoured whey & milk to nonsugar jelly, it makes a nice moouse. Have put it in with oats & pancakes too.

    Excellent thanks guys.
Those sites look good. They sell maltodextrin too, which I remember being unable to get after theministryoffitness.com went out of business.

Are these actually nice with water, or just milk?

I'd nearly eat berryblast with a spoon! Never tried with it with milk so I don't know.

Choc Mint is nice with water but with milk it tastes like a lovely creamy milkshake (to the seasoned protein drinker that is, my gf still hates it lol).

I drink mint choc with milk, it's delish. It's my treat at night after not eating any ****e all day. Never treated it with water though, because take RAM after training and heard whey with water digests to quickly, so never had a need to try it.

Thought the other two with water wouldn't be nice...

Pro X and Big Whey taste fine mixed with water. My main problem with the whey from Bulkpowders wasnt actually the taste,it was the fact that its very hard to blend with anything without going claggy. You'd end up with a sticky lump in the bottom of the glass and it wold harden overnight into a cement.

I use one of these to mix mine up. You can add ice and it crushes it up completely, it also froths it all up really well, like a real milkshake.

No more work than using a shaker. That thing is really small. The main thing in the middle is about 500ml, the cap that screws on has the blades incorportated. You unscrew the clear part pour in milk, ice, whey, then screw on the cap with the blade. Now you turn it upside down and stick it on the machine. It crushes all the ice in about 20 seconds. Then drink it direct from the clear container and just rinse the 2 parts.

They are great for oat pancakes too, liquidises the whole oats, and since it is so small you do not end up with half your mixture clining to the sides, like you would in a big food processor. All the bits easily fit in a dishwasher too.

You also get caps so you could take the blade cap off and stick on another cap to bring it with you.

I make peanut butter in it too. I love cashews but cashew peanut butter costs a fortune, far cheaper to buy full ones and pulverise them- also you can see the nuts going in, I expect most peanut butter is the scrapings of the floor at the KP factory.

    I think Parcelforce are GLS?
I've had awful hassle with GLS when I've ordered things from Komplett. They've utterly taken the piss really - saying they'd tried to make deliveries when they hadn't at all. Ridiculous delays and big phone bills trying to get my stuff. A quick glance at the Komplett forum on boards would confirm that lost of people have experienced similar things too.
