Wow this is something to look forward to. Both sides have being in great form and fully deserve to be in the final. India produced the two best games of the competition to beat the Chokers/South Africa and of course the semi against Australia was a classic that those who watched it will never forget. Pakistan have also being impressive, they beat Australia and Sri Lanka and New Zealand very easily in the end. Both sides have lots of match winners, Yuraj, Dhoni and Harbajan will be crucial for India while Afridi, Gul and Khan will all need big games for their boys. Its going to be a cracker!

I feel Rohit Sharma should have come up before Yuvraj... hope it doesnt cost too much!

Pakistan containing India here, only an average total really.

    India 157-5 off their 20

Pakistan will definitely fancy their chances but remember their game earlier in the tournament when they only got level with India's 140 odd.

2 quick wickets in first coupla overs, India would be rite into the game...

Huge 2nd over for Pakistan, 26-1 now

    edit- 2nd wicket down, 26-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

50 up for Pakistan. But another wicket gone now.

    53-3 after 6

this is going to be a tight finish me reckons

shahid afridi will be the key. past him pakistan have a long tail as they have played all their bowlers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Afridi enters and is out second ball

    Make that 77-6

    come on India!!!

Dropped catch there, can't see it being too costly however.

    100 up for Pakistan, 100-6

    58 needed off 27

Usually found that low scoring matches are more exciting!

Pakistan almost dead and buried now. Pathan with 3-16 off his 4 overs, a match winning spell.

129-7 now, 3 sixes in the last over. 29 needed off 18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Dead and buried? How about right back in it!

Pakistan 138-8, 20 needed off the last 2 overs.

What a finish!!! So glad I only got 3 hours sleep after working a night shift to watch this.

Sensational finish, thought Pakistan would just sneak home when they got the six in the last over. Overall India probably deserved it though.

What a retarded shot by Misbah, Pakistan should have won it there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

true , but sure he displayed a superb performance, he looked completley disraught at the end, i have to say poor performance by rest of the batsman that cost us the match, pakistan had an easy win over every match, bar the indian one at the start which really didnt mater as they had qualified for the super 8's already.

    dissapointing :(#
very close match though, edge of the seat style

    wow wow wow wow.

i thought Pakistan had it when Misbah hit the last six.

had sreesanth dropped that catch he would have never have been able to return home.

but anyways lage raho india :)

great match, i was always a bit uncertain of pak bowlers as the bowling lineup seemed fairly weak, no shohaib akhtar [idiot] or mohammed sami [injured] . Despite that they had cruising wins over Australia, Newzeland, Srilanka.. but it was mostly due the 20 over factor, while the batting was decent, today it showed that a bowling was some what to be desired. I didnt think the india total was huge, nazir got out uselessly and afridi being the unsuccessful hero as always, fair play to misbah and congrats to india.

Yeah it was probably the wrong option but thats easy to say in hindsight. If he caught it right it would've been 4 maybe 6 and would be hailed as a genius.

true but there was no need, just keep calm and use the remaining 4balls to see out the match. The gamble wasn't worth losing a final over.

Yeah its a fair point. I guess with a number 11 at the other end though he had to rely on himself to see it through.

I'd blame the middle order batting more than him. Afridi played a rash shot immediately and a few others got out softly.

Lol, well that's Afridi for you! But he is a match winner, with the ball or bat and he is more than worthy for being in the team. Akmal, on the other hand has hardly ever justified his place.

im not sure what akmal has done, as ive missed out on any triangular series ever cause we live in a non crickety nation, but his performance was not even note worthy, wicket keepers should be atleast decent batsman, if anyone remembers rashid latif for pak theyll know what i mean, even moin khan.

afridi can be let off the hook as his bowling was fairly decent, 'man of the series'

Personally the stars of the cup have being RP Singh, Gambhir and Vettori who I think deserved that accolade more.

Was sure it was gonna be Yuvraj myself. Didn't think Afridi did that much all in all but he's definitely an under-rated bowler.

me thinks the same too, RP Singh, Gambir and Vettori.

ppffft what has gambir done beside his 70 today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

    Wow, some tournament alright! :D

Anyway, I think Indian team should cycle players more often, than hanging on to 'experienced' (read super-celebrity-gods) players and keep giving freshers a chance - large country, large pool to draw from and give them more games, more chances to show their metal and pick whoever is working hard than someone who scored three double centuries five years ago!

Who was the second highest scoring batsman of the cup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

what about first highest then ? and who was the highest wicket taker of the tournament? dont see why he would be eligible for star of the cup when theres several other worthy players

Well yeah Im not saying I thought he was the player of the cup but I thought it was unfair you writing of a little. Although judging by comments by Indian fans on the net he's not the most popular player they never had! Dont forget he and the other Indians played a game less than everyone else as well as their match against the mighty Scotland was rained of so heh who knows he may have top scored then:D Anyways it is going to be fascinating to see the Indian team who plays this weekend against Australia. I suspect it will be
    Sachin
    Ganguly
    Dravid
    Gambhir
    Yuvraj
    Dhoni
    Pathan
    RP Singh
    Z Khan (is he fit)?)
    H Singh
    Powar
So that means Uthapa will be out in the cold, although if he does play their is no money for guessing who will be out in the cold despite their heroics on monday:confused:

isnt it a good complaint that a team has where there are quality players waiting in the wings to get in.
Look at Brad Hogg missing out against India. I thought that was a crime
the aussies have been that way for years with quality fringe players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

    where was dravid btw?

Dravid is a very sensible person. he decided to not make himself available for selection for this comp along with tendulkar and gangula...india realise that the three of these players will not be around for much longr and they need to see how a team would cope without the three top performers over the last 10 years.

very well too i might add. uttapa, sharma, gambhir are players for the future.
