a 2-0 win and totally deserved. We dominated for most of the game, however, after missing several chances, sav slid in to put us ahead with about 6 minutes left. Ed added a second in the last minute. still, we didnt panic and we played some great stuff and 3 points is 3 points.

We made hard work of that. Shoulda been game over at HT. I/we missed some guilt edged chances and it got frustrating, but in the last 15-20mins we were good for the win, quite clearly the better footballing side.

    Win is a win.

Yep, should've been at least 3 up at half time, I was one of several to miss a good chance, but that's the way it goes sometimes. We could've easily lost the plot and let the frustration force us into a long ball game, but the fact we played our best football in the last 20 shows we kept our cool to some extent and had faith that sticking to our passing game would eventually give us a chance we'd take. That shows good character.

And yep a win is a win so we'll take it though it really should've been at least 5-0. Gav and Art linked very well on the left side letting the ball do the work and niall and Sav made good things happen up front aswell, though it was a very solid performance by all of the 16 or so players who got a run.

Has to be said that they were a poor side though and we'll need to improve further and get ruthless in taking our chances in order to win this league. Great moves in the middle third of the pitch, but still a tendency to overcomplicate in the last third. Midfielders need to supply their strikers a lot earlier and put faith that the striker will either score or create, cos its very frustrating knowing you have the beating of a man but are not getting enough balls fed in early enough to do it. Let's do the complex stuff where it counts - within shooting range - and when it's out wide get it across that little bit earlier, but definitely a very good performance overall.

    2 foul throws = 2 too many.

We'll be lucky if we meet as poor a team again as that lads. Let's call a spade a spade. You can only beat what's put in front of you though, and even though we made hard work of sticking it in the net, we created the chances. Last season we weren't even creating chances so big improvement. Was a walk in the park in midfield, they had nothing. But we put them to the sword and didnt lose the head. Could have, possibly should have been 4 or 5-0 to us. But a win is a win. Last season we would have probably got a draw in that game

The foul throws . Killing ourselves just when we had them penned back, just gifting possession back to them. I think most fellas know how do take a standard throw, pick the ball up, take your time and lob it down the line without any real purpose. But quick and accurate throw-ins is what we should be looking to do.

You can cause the opposition team all sorts of problems from quick throws, free kicks, corners etc. That is, if you don't make a balls of it in the process. On the issue of throws, if a guy is free and in space, you should be pinging that ball to his feet with some velocity (not let it linger in the air for ages like a bad smell). If you are launching it down the line at least keep it at head height for someone to flick onwards. There's nothing worse than having the ball thrown at you at middle height, there is fook all you can do with it. Also there should always be someone in line with the thrower in case the ball drops. Realistically, from a throw in there are probably only 3 or 4 possible outcomes of where the ball will end up (usually out for another throw). Anticipation is the word I'm looking for.

Another case is Ed's kickouts, quite obviously they are *usually* going to have a fair distance. Between our front 4, someone should be jumping for the header and someone else should already be in behind. The runner should be starting his run just as the kick is being taken (not 5 seconds after which seems to be the case now). There were many balls over the top which we just didnt anticipate which could have created half chances or even 1-on-1. Don't get stuck ball watching, take a chance, you'd be amazed the amount of times a striker (or even defender) gets a flick on and the ball drops in front of the keeper with nobody on the end of it. Yes, that's the basic of "long ball" football, we know we want to play football but we need variety too. And its easier to play football when you're a goal or 2 up.

Anyway, it was a good performance, I think we could sense the relief when we finally did score and it was a long time coming. Dan had another very good game at Centre Half. At one point I had the feeling it would be one of those days where we'd do everything but score, although we did get our just reward.

    Over to you Jules :D:D

That's gas - Sav, I thought you weren't there, but you weren't hiding in the bushes during our training session on Saturday were you cos that's pretty much exactly what we covered in 20 minutes going over throw-ins :D

But yep hearing it from another source should just reinforce the point, but we should have zero tolerance on not only foul, but poor throws from now on. Might be a good idea to actually film some throwers using mobiles to show the what they're doing wrong.

Yep, we do need to get better at chasing the long kickouts (which should be the only real times we go very long) cos if we do it right we can nick a goal or two off them.
