I think England will win because they'll be superior in the lineout and scrum.

I am tempted to agree with you but I am holding out for a Tongan victory. It is certainly not cut and dry by any means. Those Tongans ain't no pushover.

I hope so:) How Ireland could do with Tonga's number eight. Their centres are probably stronger than our forwards too.

    How were they robbed ?

They couldn't win the game with SA down to 13 men.

For their sakes I do hope they beat England and hopefully the 2 big games before this hasn't taken too much out of them.

They definitely deserve it more than England.

Paddy Power have England at +23 points which I think is a massive mistake would love to see Tonga win. Amazingly all the home nations could be gone by Sunday night and if any get through they'll be mullered in the Semis, says a lot about where we are at.

After Irelands world cup disaster , and Greedie O'Sullivans muppet management , Tonga and Georgia have restored my faith in Rugby , and all thats good in the game :)

So go on tonga -- one mega result for a minnow will be good for rugby overall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

SA played shockingly against Tonga bar the 10 mins when they got 3 tries. They should have won the match easily, if they had a decent place kicker on in the first half they would've.

I just can't see England losing this one. When Tonga are penalised, which they will be, Jonny will invariably slot them over. They'll get to the quarters England which is as far as they could with the team they have.

    Here's hoping I'm wrong!

but they beat Samoa , no mean feat , with 13 players -- not sure we'd manage that at the moment

13 men only for the last few mins though wasn't it. That was a derby match and Samoa weren't great from what I remember.

Tonga, like Samoa look great when they're given space in broken play but in truth they lack substance and structure in their play. They'll struggle if England do the basics right. Sure the USA came close to beating them in their first game.

If England play badly like SA did then Tonga have half a chance.

England to Win hopefully, although the way England are playng at the moment they will probably make a real meal of it ~ dunno why anybody would want Tonga to win!!! (unless England are useless) Surely we should all be rooting for all the Home Nations, unless of course we are actually playing against England, in which case we would obviously all support Ireland :D

Or are we still in the "Anybody execpt England" narrow minded Paddy mindset?

What are the home nations? I presume we're all still in the up-the-underdog mindset.

Don't think its anything to do with that to be honest more to do with the fact that no matter what the sport everyone loves to see the massive underdogs get a victory over the big teams.

As long as their line out works and Wilkinson gets good ball I think England will win. They look a totally different team with Barkley playing out side Wilkinson. I think he can kick them out of trouble. Penalities from the half way line and the like.

I freely admit that I am in the small minded Aussie 'Anyone but England' mindset.:D

weather is poor for tonight, expect Johnny to kick England to a win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

I think it will be very close, but with the Togans green hair I think they will pull through a tight victory... I'd watch out for those cross field kicks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭grasscutter

If Wilko stays fit we will be grand and should win so I am keeping my patriotic fingers crossed.

Is Barkley fit for this one?

    Yep, I'll be honest ABE.
C'mon Tonga, then Australia if England scrape through, South Africa v England has been the most enjoyable game of the RWC so far.

Can definitely see england covering + 15
    Put 400 on tonga +27 @ 1-2 myself

Pardon my ignorance, but what does +27 actually mean? Is it that they'll come with 27 point of England?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,698 ✭✭✭IrishMike

Basically the match starts england 0 tonga 27
Its a handicap bet that tonga with a 27 point headstart will win the match at odds of 1-2

I just want Tonga to win cos I can't stand the english. There you go...

Wow people are writing off Tonga, I'm surprised. All this talk of Tonga maybe beating +15 or +27 point handicaps. I think Tonga has what it takes to beat England in a straight race.

England similiar to Ireland haven't looked good in this tournament and tonights game is a really tough one. Hope you guys take the bookies to the cleaners on those bets. :)

All depends on the start - Tonga are a confidance team..if England start off slowly they'll have a very tough game on their hands and could narrowly loose..

A good start by England and they'll probably hammer Tonga.

Its fascinating. England are clearly the smarter wiser team, but Tonga have a massive hunger and self belief, is great to watch.

One thing is for sure, Tonga cannot kick a rugby ball to save their lives.

Good game, England being very 'professional' (I expect Argentina to be cagey playing it through the middle on Sunday), Tonga look good but one moment aside flatter to deceive.

    Mike.
