Satellite - picture freezing/breaking up??

    Hi guys,

The picture on our Televes FTA satellite system has recently started to 'freeze' and 'break up' for seconds at a time at completely random times.

I know if the weather is windy and a dish is shaking a bit this can be the cause of this sometimes, but with our system it happens at any time.

It is very annoying to say the least. You could be watching an interesting programme or music video and suddenly the picture and sound would go wonky, and maybe be ok again for a few secs, and then go again (and maybe keep doing so for ages) ?!

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?
Bad connections? Fault with reciever box or dish?

    Cheers,
    Silvera.

Sounds like the dish is out of alignment slighly

That happens from time to time on my free to air dish so i delete all the stations and then re-tune them all back again and it works for me. I think they move the stations around a bit in order to accommodate new channels on the satellite.

Birds landing on the LNB arm?

this could be anything from the dish to the box or even external interference, so I suppose start with the basic fixes, the firmware in FTA boxes can get just as upset as Sky boxes so try disconnecting it from the mains for a few mins, after that try a factory reset and see how you get on.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I suspected that maybe it could be the dish alignment...there was some building work on the garage recently near where the dish is located so maybe it got knocked slightly by a ladder or something.

I will try this first and take it from there.

    Cheers,
    Silvera.
