I have heard of a small box that can be attached to a scanner, which will allow you to effectively network that scanner and send scanned documents to internal email addresses on a network. I don't they are expensive but I cannot find them anywhere on the Internet.

Does anyone know what these are called and where I might find them?

    Tom...

I haven't ever seen anything like that, sure it exists though. Generally speaking the scanner would send it's information (via a standard twain driver) to a PC which then automatically loads your mail client with the attached image... nearly every entry-level scanner these days comes with that sort of "email button".

Not the easiest thing to google for, but something along these lines might do the job for you: http://www.scan2email.net/

Thanks Kali. they definitely exist. The problem with the twain driver/PC connection is that everyone has to scan through my machine, which is a real pain. Windows XP is not fully supported yet by the software for the scanner and it cannot be connected to the network through my PC.

I will keep guessing on E-Bay maybe.

I think you could be thinking of a Digital Sender which is a fax machine, but can also send the document to any email address you type in. You can setup address books on it for all common senders and recipients which is handy. You don't connect any scanner to it as it has its own inbuilt scanner.

Will be in the ,000's though...

I have seen a networked scanner but that was about 5 years ago, it iwas a huge Epson with box i programmed all the IP Addresses, it was just like connecting it to a PC and sharing it, expect there was no PC to make sure was always turned on.

Cheapest option is to just connect it to a PC and share it out...

Doesn't mater if you go for Networked, USB Shared or Digital Sender you will still have to walk to the machine with your document so it is more about cost and convenience then...
