Friend of mine has just gotten a new Dell Vostros with Vista. He knows jack all bout PCs so Im basically looking for an anti-virus etc.. that is very user friendly to the PC illiterate.

I use AVG antivirus myself and Comodo firewall but is there anything more simple to use and will not require alot of maintenance and fiddling with

    Thanks in advance

Not sure what works with Vista, and don't know many anti-virus programs that are simpler than AVG

    Maybe ClamAV..

I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security version 6.0 on Vista Ultimate, and, although expensive, it's very user-friendly. No probs at all running on Vista, which I cannot say for other application software.

Dont know much about Vista compatibility - but if Kaspersky works, I suggest using that. Its also a lot more user friendly then other products. AVGs interface isnt the best..

I think Kaspersky gives trials so he can test it and if he cant get used to it, switch to something else.

Comodo firewall is very good - can be slightly hard to use but iv never had much problems with it. Does it work on Vista?

I had to leave in my laptop to my local computer shop in Naas as it has suddenly slowed up. He recommended that i should instal 'bullguard' anti virus software,i already have the free version of AVG, which he says is not sufficient for broadband - any comments?
I have not seen any posts on the forum about this software

I've heard of bullguard before, dont think its supposed to be THAT good. Cant imagine its better than AVG either. If you have a decent anti-virus and firewall, you will be ok on broadband.

Bullguard is sh1te! absolutely sh1te. Yer man has no idea what he's on about. I use avg free and have for years with no problems (get spywareguard and spywareblaster also, they are free and very good at keeping spyware away)

WTF is that store? Honest to good. Recommending software like that.

AVG is good, its not brilliant, but it does most of the job.

    I use comodo and nod32

Comodo: probably not best for a techphobe but v good none the less.

Nod 32: not that expensive (€40 ish) and v good. easy as pie to configure nad takes care of itself.

I run a precautionary check of adaware and spybot every so often.

Never had a virus or infection.

Had recommended Kaspersky version 6.0 earlier in this thread. It has now upgraded to version 7.0. It runs on both XP2 and Vista.
