In javascript how would I get the length of the name element below?

I tried name.length and it didnt seem to work.
    <tr><td>Name: </td><td><input type="text" name="name" value="<%=details[0]%>"></td></tr>

Post the full code.. but I think it might be that "name" is a reserved word? Its <element_name>.value.length anyhow.

if its called f_name, then document.getElementById("f_name").value.length.
