    Hi

    I have a 1997 BMW 318
All ok until a few days ago..all brake lights have gone:confused:
all other lights are working fine but the 3 lights (2 sides and 1 in lower back window) not working
Check fuse and bulb, replaced fuse and bulb just to be sure, but no joy
    any ideas would be great..cheers

Hi the usual cause for brake lights in e36 (your model 3 series) is that the brake light switch above the pedal has failed. They normally fail internally. I think is about €30 to buy a new one. It's not too difficult to fit either. One connector.
Probably easier to call into Kevin O'Learys or Kearys to get one rather than this on Ebay

Here is a guide on the issue:

    Fair play

looks like it could be the switch all right
Will get a new one and see how it goes, will post here if it works

    Thanks again:D

    Ok rebel.ranter

I did what that web site said and try'ed to pull off the switch behind the brake pedal
did not come out easy, banged my head a few times!!
and just broke it in half (very careful I am not)

went to Kearys (hoping they had one) and bought a new one for 18 Euro
went home and my wife thinks Im a genius, works perfect..All thks to you

    Owe you one,
    Dan:D
