Sky Reception

I previously had a Lidl 80cm dish and every gust of wind, etc interfered with reception and blew the dish downwards.

So I decided to get Sky and during the Summer is worked great perfect reception but now some of the channels are coming up no satellite reception, technical problem, for you could be watching a programme and it starts jumping on and off.

Is this normal the reason I got Sky was beacuse of the problems with the Lidl dish.

I know heavy rain would affect the signal but the rain has not been that heavy nor has the wind.

I tried unplugging the box for a while to see if that would make a difference but no.

    Any suggestions?

I'd say your dish has become a bit misaligned, and needs readjusting.

    Or maybe a faulty LNB.

Agree with byte but could also be a faulty tuner (in your skybox)

Indeed, that can also be a possibility.

OP, can you specify what channels have the problems?

Also, when you go into Services, System Setup, Signal Test
what does your Signal Quality bar show? The Strength bar isn't really all that helpful.

A lot of times when their is a technical fault error message showing up on a box, pull out the power cord for 2 minutes to reset the box.

I'm having the same problem in the North-West. Checked the alignment of the dish using a satfinder AND a FTA box - no probs. Called Sky and ran through all their troubleshooting, and the guy was stumped as to what was wrong. Apparently the test results said I was getting full signal on all transponders, but still no Sky 1, 2, 3, RTE 1, 2, TV3 etc. He even put me on hold to go chat to his supervisor. He tried a few more tests and suggested I get a tech out (for €100? Not likely. I'll order Sky+ instead)

I can get Paramount Comedy and CH4/E4/More4 ok.

I think either the box itself is done for, or my LNB is intermittantly faulty.

I have found that it is a help to remake the cable to f connector to lnb connection every couple of years or so as even with a properly sealed connection sometimes where the f connector is screwed onto the cable there seems to be a build up of corrosion here which is difficult to detect. cut about 4 inches off the cable and make a new clean connection. It is a good idea to leave enough cable slack during the inital installation to allow this, a spare couple of metres inside the attic or whereever will help.

I also have this problem (in Waterford). I have no lost access to Sky 1, 2 & 3. All the sports channels and almost all the Movie channels. I've been told this is common with the Grundig boxes and that I should replace the box, anybody else heard this.

It is extremely common for the tuners to go in older Grundig boxes, they can be repaired but I wouldn't recommend it, as something else is likely to go before time.

The usual way I check the tuner by turning onto channel 998, channel 110 and 401 sky sports, usually if no satellite signal is being received is visible on the screen its a sign the tuner is gone although this inst always the case, it could be a misaligned dish.

If you have a phoneline in your house, upgrading to sky plus can be a cheaper option unless you can put your hand on a second hand box.

Thanks Steveon, 998, 110 & 401 are all gone. I think rather than pay for a call out I'll upgrade to Sky +.

No probs Roanmore, best thing about upgrading apart from the extra record features is the speed of channel changing, the grundig boxes are soooooooooo slow at doing anything.
