    Hey!

Traveling to Rome in October.. 3 nights - but I cant find nice(cheap <100euro/night) accommodation in the centre...

Can anyone tell me what the transport is like over there? If I found somewhere near the rome ring road - are taxi's / busses / trains cheap and easy?

Traveling to Venice then afterwards for 3 nights also... hopefully it will be easier to find accommodation there!

Rome is expensive but there are a lot of decent budget hotels near the main railway station http://www.romeby.com/cgi/searchpowernew.cgi i stayed in a really nice hotel one time in Rome but i have completely forgot the name (sorry)

Buses are very efficient, if a little slow on Rome's ancient streets. The subway is the best way to travel around town.

Venice is over-the-top expensive for accommodation. My advice would be to stay off the island and look for accommodation on the mainland. We stayed in treviso which is a charming small city about 25 minutes from the centre of venice via train.

Termini is the main station and that area is ROUGH. Subway is dirt cheap, best way to get around.

within stones throw of the station i agree, but i have stayed west, north and east of the termini (about 1/2 mile in each direction) and i had no problems. All the scumbags seem to stay right beside the station.

Hi stayed there for 3 nights in the summer. We booked an apartment through www.booking.com the place was residence rent roof. There was 5 of us staying there its down the road from the train station and the tube. 3 stops to the colleseum. A bit hard to find but clean and central enough.
