    Hi,
I'm looking for somewhere to run a GSM modem and a small asp.net application. I'm not looking for anything fancy in terms of backup/ diskspace/ bandwidth/ uptime but it looks like it will cost around €3,000 pa for a dedicated server that I'd be allowed to connect the modem to (from someone like hosting365).

Any ideas on how I could get this cheaper?

Depending on your BB, why dont you host it yourself, cheap PC + Modem

So you want a simple server (i.e. not high spec) that is connected to a network via GSM to run a very small application?

If so, the cheapest option would be to setup and run it yourself. If the app is very simple and not resource hungry your average desktop would do.

    Hi,
Yes, I have BB. What's involved in setting up a PC as a webserver? Any good links on doing this properly i.e safely/ securely?

Since you want to run an ASP app, your best bet is probably IIS. Easy enough to setup, and there are loads of guides out there on how to secure it. The best thing is to make sure the server is fully patched.

The server will have to run XP Pro or Win 2000 Server or Win 2003 Server. But if the app is as simple as you say XP Pro will be sufficient.
