How do I do links properly?

This could well be in the wrong thread, so mods please feel free to move it if this is the case- but what I want to know is how to make proper links when I'm talking about stuff here on boards(or anywhere). I'm not exactly Albert Einstein when it comes to computers.

Like most people are able to say and if you look here, you will find x. And when you click the "here" you get liked to something or other. All I'm able to do is say and if you look at http://www.boards.ie you will find a discussion board about all kinds of stuff.

So how do I do it properly? All help is much appreciated.

Normally I just type the word i want to have the link on (e.g. linkage) then highlight the word, click on the link button and then you're done

    linkage
