Just wondering for a rough idea of cost of books and associated stuff for tr032??

And would these books do for this year only or some last more than that?

    regards

a lot of differing opinions on books, but I found after doing two completely different courses (Dropped out of Accounting in DCU after 2nd year) that books aren't that necessary. I got all my books off ebay for a total of €70 and sold them back to the students union for about €40 at the end of the year. Some were old versions, but most only cost €2-€3 and the rest i paid was on shipping.

Some of the lads in college paid €400 and had less books than I did.

I found the books for 1E6 (engineering science) were important, but didn't have them. Other than that any physics/chemistry/calculus book in the library will give you more than enough info. There's usually plenty of them floating about, so don't go blowing a bomb on unnessesary books. Wait a while and see what you're actually using before spending money.

    And on a final note

BUYING BOOKS DOES NOT MEAN YOU'LL PASS EXAMS!;)

I have a couple of books for this course I'm looking to get rid of, PM me if interested. They can be as much as 70 a pop first hand

As for whether you'll use them past 1st year, it depends on the book.

I wouldn't buy books for Engineering. There are usually plenty in the library, plus not all from one subject will follow the one book. For final year, I found myself with around 12 or 13 books out towards the end which'll tell you you how many different books might be required.

If you have your heart set on spending money on books think about holding off 'til 3rd or 4th year. You'll find that there's a large amount of crossover between these years (speaking from a Civil perspective anyways) with the magic phrase 'as you learnt last year' uttered several times.

The library is free. Use it. If there isn't enough books, contact the subject librarian or get your class rep/education officer to do it for you.

Anywhere between 0 euro and 500 euro. If you want to buy a book, read it in the library first. If you buy books, make sure they are the maths ones, as these are the most likely to be continually referenced through out the four years. Avoid the chemistry, physics, statics and dynamics books. The are either too basic (won't be used passed first year) or great but still won't be used passed first year. I did buy a really good chemisty book called rob lewis and wynne evans chesmitry by palgrave foundations. It was cheap (28 euro) and had everything you needed in a cut down format. It was actually written for engineers.

Anyway, I've a **** load of books, the maths ones i'll keep forever, the electronic ones i'll keep forever, the rest I'll will probably put in a book somewhere and forget.

I bought books in first. Waste of money except for the maths books which you can buy but there was always plenty in the library.

I wouldnt rush out and buy anything

I bought 2 books in 1st yr engineering... and then copped on that there isnt really much point in them...

Once you keep up to date with the course notes thats everything you should need, a couple of photocopy cards to get missed lecture notes is much cheaper than buying books!! :p
If you feel the need to further understand stuff just go to the library...

1 book I did find useful was the computer science one, problem solving with c++, as it was easy to understand and easy to find what you're looking for in it...

I agree with stevo... ebay is the way to go!
