Any advice would be great looking at buying a house built 8 years ago.the outside walls are leaf block work but no insulation between them, instead they used a 1 1/2 plaster board with insulation on it all round inside of house. Is that ok or would i have to look at one of the companys pumping in insulation into the cavity,if so any idea how much it might cost "ie one thousand or ten".Its a 1400 sq ft dormer.

I got a quote of ~€3000 to pump the cavity in my 3000sq ft new build with "Polypearl". I assume they charge based on total cavity area so you could probably calculate an approx number for your own. I think they treat new builds slightly differently to existing houses so that could be a factor in the cost too - but gives you some idea of the price range

Did you notice a big difference after it was insulated. My house is a 3bed semi with no external insulation, kinda cold in the winter.

    Hi Wicklah,

I'm still building my house so havent lived with it yet. It came highly recommended from a number of people though - including those that pumped older houses.

    Hi lfcjfc,
How thick is your cavity, and is that material ok wrt water crossing the cavity?
    Cheers..

The cavity is standard 100mm. If I was starting again I would consider increasing that - would save me thinking about also insulating the interior of external walls like I am now. Reading the blurb on the pumped bead technology, the fact that the beads are near perfect spheres makes it difficult for water to cross the cavity. Havent heard and problems from people that have used this either.
