I find Lavigno in Italian Alps to be good. Go there every year, good selection of slopes and high enough in the alps to get good snow. Relatively cheap too. Fly into Bergamo Milan direct with ryanair. 4 hour bus/taxi journey tho.

Panorama OWN Livigno. It's a very difficult resort to travel solo to cheaply.

I think you can only really stay in a hotel if you travel solo. You're better off just going with Panorama, it ends up cheaper.

If you're a beginner and have never been skiing/snowboarding before, it's probably good to have a rep to ask questions etc.

Arinsal in Andorra is a nice one, we went there in late Feb and the snow was still very good. Its a nice resort and generally not as expensive as the Italian and Austrian resorts. We booked with Direct Ski and stayed at the Diana Apts. They'll organise your lessons as well

Andorra isn't supposed to be that great, or so I've heard. Livigno and Andorra are the same price for the first week in Febuary.

I'd recommend Livigno over Andorra because the ski instruction is better as are the lifts (from what I hear). Also the food in Livigno is great, especially the Bellavista Restaurant. AND it's duty free. 1L Smirnoff - €5... just so you know.

I'm going back there for my fourth time in March with my family. Looking forward to it!

I'd recommend checking out the 'Winter Sports' forum also, they've a lot of good info there.

We went to Chamonix in France last winter. 10 beginners, no of us had ever skiied. Was brilliant. Don't really have anything to compare it to, but to me there seemed to be a great range of slopes and the instructor was really good.

I have been to all 3 mentioned .... Livigno was the best holiday ever apart from the long transfer but I believe they have changed airports now so not as bad... It was so cheap and everything is within reach so apres ski is great.. Instructors also best ive found so far...
Pamporovo sorry if you are going but it is really bad...... we were there last year and the snow was terrible, acc ok and food terrrible.. There was a big group of us so made our own fun.... The instructors were terrible and very disorganised gpoing ski you have to get on the buses to the ski area so if miss them have to taxi up and they always crowded....
Andorra is always great and quite cheap also is easy if want to go on your own if confident driving with chains on car for snow... All round very good in Andorra... This year we are heading to Austria so we can be guaranteed snow.. end up paying a bit more but must be good as Today Fm group just booked to go there again this year!!!

Most resorts in Austria aren't that high? Are you going in Febuary?

We are heading to Val Thorens this year ourselves, so we'd be guaranteed snow. Highest resort in Europe so if there ain't snow there, there won't be snow many other places!

    We always stay in Apartments
This year we stayed in http://www.calanda.it/appartamenti/
was a lovely place. Landlord went a bit nuts when we invited friends back to our apartment for a few late drinks tho.

Not sure about the lessons but you should have no trouble getting a good instructor.
