smurph is up next for this following on from this thread.

    Same Rules:

There can be NO flaming, this isn't a chance for people to have a shot at who ever goes in. Entrants to the Deconstructing series will have their thick skins on but forum rule breaches will be dealt swiftly and harshly (1 week ban), so you have all been warned.

Just to spell it out: NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, criticise and critique his game and NOTHING else!

Keep it constructive and good luck smurph.

I've played a bit with Smurph and she's one of the most consistent tournament performers around Dublin (oddly enough, never played cash with her).

The only mild criticism that I might make is that she can be somewhat lacking in aggression in the mid-stages of tournaments (I have the same problem), other than that her game is very good imo..and the results don't lie!

oh, and she's a pleasure to play with; more smurphs, less muppets please

i played with you a few times smurph and each time you've played perfect poker for the most part. my only criticism is that you just do not believe me, ever. your results speak for themselves and good luck in the future

As said above Collete, your record speaks volumes. I've played with you a few times and never noticed mistakes, but as ElStunt says, you could probably turn up the aggression a little, when you 3-bet, I'd need a very narrow range to get involved.

The above relates to early and mid level tournaments.

I seem to end up on your table way too much smurph, as el_stunman said you are one of the most consistent tournament performers around atm, your game is very solid, just add in a little more aggression and who knows what 2008 could bring ya.... good luck in the future (hopefully i'll only ever see you on the final table :))

i havent played with you much but have certainly dealt to you plenty which is a good sign. my criticisms would be that you should stop tapping the fish tank and giving lessons when you are bad beat, and also not to tilt quite so much and realise it all part of the game. you also play better when not tired too.

quite a solid player from what i've seen. i would say that your bet sizing often gives away the strength of your hand. you will often make smaller cautious bets with weakish hands, especially when leading into the preflop raiser. this gives license to getting reraised with nothing.

Haven't played at the same table as smurph in months, but she's great fun at the table. Only thing I picked up on was that you tend to call preflop raises at cash tables with any two cards if there is value.
E.g. Hold'em cash game in Fitz, 1-2-straddle5, someone raises to 17 or something, call call, and you showed down 74o after calling on the button. Probably a good tactic in Dublin live games though lol.

It doesn't matter, this is about her hearing about problems with her game that others perceive, she doesn't have to comment at all really. I've PM'ed her the link to the thread so when she comes back she can bump it to comment on anything brought up. She was next on the list and so up she went.

is there a list of links to previous deconstructing threads?

typing it in search does nothing

No, when I get a chance I'll try and put them all into the Legendary threads post in the guide, Google Search of Boards is the best way to find one, the list of people who've gone is in the OP.

Although let's try to keep this thread free from chatter from now on for smurph so she can hopefully get something positive from the thread.

As you can see my post was made under mellor's (which he has since deleted, in which he thought it was a "well" or something and was asking her questions) and hence i was pointing out that she was away...

Thanks for the comments, duly noted. I have found that my betting patterns were giving away alot about my hand etc., and I have tried to change it and as they say it is a work in progress.

..... Just back from Vegas, we had a brillant time. Stayed in Ceasers Palace and did all the touristy things this time, Saw everything there is to see in Vegas.... Venetian has the best structured tournaments, Ceasers seems to have the biggest crowds......They are doing a promotion for their Big Tournament in November $10K entry fee with 1Million first prize guaranteed. The highest hand in their cash games per night for Monday Tuesday and Wednesday wins a ticket.... this resulted in alot more local people playing in the cash games..... but playing tighty mctight so they could be pushed off pots..... Split a few tournaments, etc. Definitely feel 2 weeks is too long though, 10 day holiday would be the best.... The Grand Canyon Trip is well worth doing by helicopter, blew me away.....

anyway back to work, back to grey dublin, (but quiet dublin)

    Smurf,

Admitting you saw the Grand Canyon when is Vegas ...... what sort of a poker player are you ? :D

All I can say about your game is that it improved tremendously since I first played against you in the Fitz. You went from calling too often with the worst of it to folding (a quality you need to win). You also got tougher to take off a good hand, as I noticed many times when people tried to push you.
