refuelling the PASSION

Anybody get a read of Warren Gatlans article today? If you didn't, he questioned Irelands passion. I must agree with him and have been thinking of how we as fans can give the lads a sense of passion. We are all aware of the anthem debate, and to be honest it is the last thing I wuld love to start. However after the anthems have been sung, I would love to hear the Irish crowd "spontaneously" belt out Amhrán na bhFiann. I don't know about anyone else but if I was out there on the pitch, Amhran na bhFiann would certainly make the hair on the back of my neck stand.

Again I would like to highlight my desire NOT to start a anthem debate. I just feel this would give the lads an injection of passion.

Well, if you are playing on the biggest stage of the rugby world, in a game with your one chance to win a world cup and you can't pull together a sense of passion, then no national anthem will help you. Haven said that, The Fields of Athenry might be more apt considering it's a 32 country team

Passion should just come naturally when you line out for your country on the world stage. I have been a fan of rugby when we crap and through the recent improved times. I had high expectations for the RWC and have been looking forward to Ireland putting in a good performance. Last sat night was soul destroying, the lack of passion in the forwards was a disgrace, I really hope the can get the heads and hearts right for the match against France. Listening to some of Eddies recent interviews does not inspire me with confidence.

Maybe they should belt out, "Give it a lash Eddie, Give it a lash Eddie, Never never never say no... Ireland Ireland, the oialand of Ireland, Rev it up and here we go"

you don't want to start an anthem debate??....well you could have fooled me:rolleyes:
so why did you mention amhran na bhfiann twice then??

anyway amhran na bhfiann is the anthem for the republic not the island of ireland.

True , Ulster players are there so the standard anthem is out. Its a huge credit to Irish rugby they play together so well when the whole Northern Ireland / Rep of Ireland soccer thing is such a divisional issue.

Fact is the last two games they should have been able to win comfortably even if they sang "The wheels on the bus".

They have the chance to lift the ultimate prize in world rugby if they don't want it then ffs come home and play for your clubs.

...or maybe some kind of Celtic wardance like the Oceanians have... Or war-cry

Though to be honest watching Samoa v Tonga and they both had their own war-dances, but took it in turns... Surely if they were really passionate one would have interrupted the other or began it during the thing to really show defiance. And when NZ weren't allowed to do it in Wales that time, they should have done it anyway, for God's sake it's a war-dance! You're not supposed to be "allowed" to do it!
