Is Broadband over MMDS possible?

Does anyone know if this is technically possible? AFAIK, NTL does not provide broadband over MMDS, only over cable.

If it's not possible, would it be difficult to upgrade the technology to something that is capable of broadband, using the same antenna?

Is MMDS interactive at the moment? I mean, what actually happens if you press the Menu button on MMDS? How does it get the program information? Or is it some teletext application?

    Thanks for an explanation.

There is no return channel on MMDS.
There are two problems with BB on MMDS
    1) You would need a different outdoor unit/aerial for reverse channel
    2) They don't have enough bandwidth / spectrum.

Thus while it is possible to get TV and Broadband on one MMDS *STYLE* aerial, it is not possible with *ANY* system with current aerial and the current Irish spectrum assignments mean it is not possible with any hypothetical single aerial.

Any wireless broadband service would have to use a separate aerial. It might not even be possible to have it from the same base station mast as current MMDS, as the basestation needs to be "backhaul" to Internet, the MMDS bases do not need Internet.

MMDS is essentially a reduced version of cable. While cable could eventually utilise Broadband for Interactive, currently it doesn't.

The menu button is various system settings.

    So in summary...

yes combined MMDS TV/Broadband does exist and is possible on a single aerial, but that is not going to happen in Ireland.

Chorus had powernet going ( separate antenna though) years before there were so many Wisps around.
Also that type of antenna isn't great , they just spray rf everywhere when transmitting.I gave them a petname of "gridomnis"

That's a pity isn't it. Loads of people on MMDS.

I guess there is a physical limit anyway on the broadcasting antenna, even if you were able to return a signal.
