Our third year in Antrim and the event is certainly going from strength to strength up there, new clubs, greater attendance from old clubs and only one veteran division! All in all a great sign for the growth of our sport.

As usual none of this could have happened without the help of a few people and I must thank them now -
Michelle Shields for all her help before the event collating the entries and getting them entered onto the system and of course for helping with her brother Dean at the event ensuring the fighters were ready to go, it was because of Dean and Michelle that the event ran from start to finish so quickly.

Colm O'Reilly for his staunch support of the League in general and for helping out to ref on Saturday.
And last but not least Jonny Dooey for turning up to lend a hand without even needing to be asked, a true gentleman!

Without further ado here are the results from Antrim and as usual, if you have any corrections or clarification please get them to me within the week.

Footlock was definitely submission of the day :)

Foot locks abounded alright! We even had a DQ when one fighter went for a heelhook (illegal hold)!

I omitted to mention above the Fighting Ireland awards presented to -

Jonny Kerins - Fastest Submission of the Day
    and
    Sean Curran - Best submission

Both of these lucky guys gets an equipment voucher to the value of 75 euro from Fighting Ireland, so if you guys could email me I will set you up with your well deserved prize. Thanks again to Fighting Ireland for all their help and support of the League this year.

Sounds good. What caused the DQs btw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭dasmoose

Well 90% of DQs in the league are from accidental head strikes; I do recall one fighter being DQed for attempting a heel hook and I saw another match stopped because of a groin strike, I believe that might have been a DQ as well.

A lot of Rookie fights at this one Mark.
I see some vets are fighting rookie fighters.
Will they get the points from the fights added to the vet table???
Because some of the fighters are close on the tables with only one round to go.

I can't speak for Mark, but if no other vets show up to fight, why should a guy who does miss out on the opportuntiy to score points? You can only fight who is put on front of you and if you're serious about winning the league then you should make the journies.

Oh also I can definitely see people taking photos during my fight, on the off chance that wasnt marks photographer and therefore the photos will surface eventually, could whoever took them put them online and link here?

    thanks :-D

As Roper pointed out, sometimes Vets have to fight Rookies as there is nobody of their standard to fight. As has happened every event since 2005 when the standard grading of fighters began, they get the points in their own division.

there was no MMA League photographer there on Saturday unfortunately. It was too far to bring my usual helpers! Any photos anyone has taken if you email them to me on info [at] MMALeague [dot] com then I will stick those up on the site.
