ipod not detected by ibook

Hey I just plugged my ipod into my mac to get songs from itunes. The ipod is charging from the laptop yet it is not showing up in finder or itunes? This has never happened before, does anybody know what the problem might be or how I can fix it??

Happens to me every now and again with my current iPod, never happened to any of the rest. I just unplug (even with the connection warning), turn the iPod on and off, or reset it if things are drastic, and then plug it back in, it finds it on the second go usually, and yeah, its a real pain!
