Hi all, first time poster in this forum.

i have been pricing flights etc to munich for early october. Luftansa appear to be the cheapest so far but me and my friend are contemplating air travel to a nearer european city (eg paris) and then inter-railing to munich. i was wondering to hear from a person(s) with similar experience. did it cost much? and links to book tickets

I hope You are not leaving to too late for the leg work!

Flying to Frankfurt main, which I think is about 3h20 away would be reasonable... Easily a train every hour or so.

Otherwise consider hiring a car from Baden Baden or Frankfurt Hahn (train connections not great). You would have 4 - 5 hours driving I guess.

Train travel is not cheap... could be 160 for above journey. If You are doing it, try and buy it at least 3 days in advance..

Try flying into Stuttgart and catching the train across.

Have to agree with the last poster. Accomodation IS an issure you need to consider before setting off. At weekends you should expect that all hostel accomodation is gone by this stage. Hotel accomodation, if you can even get anything, is an extortionate price. (i.e. a pokey 100 euro/ night room suddenly becomes 250/ night).

Camping at the city camping site though is cheap as chips and is an experience with the 1000's of Ozzies off their face down there.

Travelwise, Paris is nowhere near Munich!
If you fancy a bit of a roadtrip then maybe try Fredrichshafen or Salzburg which are the nearest other airports to Munich with flights from Ireland. Then again, Vienna is only 4 hours away and prague 6 hours on the train.
