Hiya, not sure if this is the correct place to post but need info on tax from buying from the US.

If I purchase from the US by post something for about $200 how much am I likely to be charged vat/tax on this?

If it's coming by regular post, then probably unlikely you will get stung (unlikely, but not definite)

If its coming via DHL/UPS or similar courier, then chances are you will face import duty, VAT and handling/admin charge.

On a $400 mp3 player a while back I was done for €85.....so yours, potentially could be around the €50 mark.

Dam I have ordered and it's by UPS.

Looks like I'm gona have to pay another €50 so :(

I just read in another post that is sent by Shipping Company: USPS I just might be ok and not charged.
    Anyone know any different?

USPS stands for US Postal Service which means it was shipped by regular mail. Therefore you have a good chance of avoiding paying customs duty.

Depends on MANY factors, I find business addresses get more through. A large item is more likely to be opened. A strange object can slip through, e.g. €500 earphones might get by while a €100 ipod might not- they can be ignorant of the values.

Some put lower values on the pack (and 3rd party insurance), lower post costs, mark as a gift, pass off as a returned warranty item, you are allowed €45 worth if it is a gift, but that includes post, so if you are posted a €1 pen overnight at €45 then you are liable for tax & duty on the €46 value.
