Go to the laptop manufacturer site and see if you can get the drivers there, If not some common laptop wifi drivers inc Atheros, Realtek, Intel, Etc...

had the same problem with my dell.
came with vista, i wiped it.
    put on xp. no drivers!

the drivers on the dell cd are for vista ONLY.
find out the manufacturer of the wreless card and google it. you will find xp drivers and vista drivers.

windows xp has its own built in wireless connectivity program.
go to control panel, go to network connections.
you will see your wireless network connection.

right click it, and make sure its enabled.
IF its not there, go back to control panel, go to system, go to device manager and see if its in the list.
IF its not there, then its not installed.

IF it is enabled in network connections in the control panel, then right click it and select "view available wireless connections"

this should bring up the list of available connections.
