Apple offers

Had an order for a Mac Book Pro which I ordered about a week ago. Was getting p'd off about the dispatch time. Then this morning I noticed the new offer of the free nano with student Mac Books, canceled my order and re-ordered getting me a free nano!!

Anywho, my reason for posting is to ask, do apple frequently release new versions and new offers unannounced? I have heard of a few disappointed people who bought stuff and then a week later apple upgrade it or replace it.

Yes, of course they do. If they announced that they were going to have a special offer coming up, what do you think that would do to their sales in the period leading up to the offer? This is a common practice used not just by apple, but also by most retailors.

    Yep.
OP, what you described is the technology market in general.
Read the open letter from Steve Jobs on the front page of the Apple website.

Doesn't every company in the world do that?

You normally expect an ipod deal around the back to college time. Apple usually send its customers information about these deals all the time. Some times its 150euro off etc. You can never judge whats next

If you hae proof of date of purchase get on to Apple and ask. Worst they can say is no.

They have this on the site so I dunno! "Buy a qualifying Mac and iPod from Apple or a participating Apple Authorised Campus Store from September 12th, 2007, through October 30th, 2007, and receive €130 mail-in rebate,"

aww I would have loved a nano!! Maybe if I beg on the phone? :P

Yeah regular T&Cs of the educational stuff. Can you 'disguise' it as an educational purchase?

I bought it through the education store and everything! Ehhh I think I may have struck gold!!!!

reading through the FAQ, I found this: "If my purchase was made through the Apple Online Store or through Apple Telesales, what date is used as the ‘purchase date’?

For online or phone orders, the purchase date is defined as the ship date. You must submit the rebate within 30 days of the ship date."

my macbook was shipped on the 12th. :D

EDIT: actually, I think they may have to be purchased at the same time... grr

Hang on hang on. I rang a nice woman at the Apple desk about this yesterday. You're fine. Buy your Nano, then download the rebate form. When your Nano arrives, put it's details and whatever else you need to send in the envelope and send it off to Apple. According to the lady on the helpline, you're set after that :)

Does anyone know when this offer ends? Thanks..

    30th of October I believe!

I need some opinions.. Should I use this €130 rebate to get a 4GB Nano for free and proceed with my original plan to buy an iPod Touch in the states, selling/possibly keeping for some reason the free nano, or should I use this rebate for the Touch altogether? I'm having trouble deciding. The sensible part of my is telling me to use it on the Touch though... Argh decisions!

Yeah. Like the folk who bought wine in Dunnes last wednesday and then on Thursday it went 25% back. I think it's called life.
