    Folks,

    I just got a price from a local blocklayer in Galway of €1.20. This includes hollowcore, garage and boundary wall.
    How does compare to what other's are paying?

    Same as I'm paying for a new build in the West started in June. I am only paying him per blocks actually laid though ie not paying for openings etc. A lot of blocklayers count the openings when agreeing a price.

    Yeah he's doing the same for me. He's only charging per blocks laid and he's also providing scaffolding, etc. Seems like a good price so.

    Where you based Joe? Im wondering if it's worth haggling with the blocklayer or is that a no no?

    €1.20 per block , not measuerd thru opes and he's providing the scaffolding , I'll tell you now he's worth it , If the scaffolding is right and errected by a trained and competent scaffolder.

    I know for a fact that the HSA are specifically targeting smaller house builders at the moment and for the foreseeable future, if you take on the responsibility of getting scaffolding errected and its not done right , your in the sh1t, if the brickie takes it on its in his own interest to do it right.

    The usual measurement rule is that opes are measured as part of wall to compensate the brickie for having to cut blocks , close cavities , install lintols etc etc.

    Finally 45 metres of a party wall would I imagine be vastly different to what whitelightrider is getting built if scaffolding is required.

    so how do you reckon 45 metres will cost including foundations. I presume its a 6 ft high wall?

    Hi..
    We're paying €1 for deadbuilding. Got down to a similar price for the rest based on a part cash deal, he's supplying scaffold.. Semi retired guy who only builds a few local houses each year. He orders goods to site himself when required, I just pays the bills :D
    Cheers..

    Its an excellent price: dont lose the opportunity by haggling

    Thanks folks. Ive got one other guy giving me a price for pricing the whole lot, house and garage, and Ill compare to the 11k price I was given already.

    But this guy is good. He's blocklaying my sisters house and he's very neat, and quick.

    Brickie, it's not a cash price and he is both registered and insured. He has taken over his father's business.

    I take it you know him personally? If not then we'll have no more comments like this.

    Roughly 2700 euro

    readymix = 560
    minidigger for one day = 199
    blocks = 600

    Done the founds myself.

    Oh and brickie will be the guts of 1000 euro

    That should have included the word "warning". You have no idea what the guy's set up is so don't speculate.

    Just to confirm that the guy is a registered brickie who has taken over his fathers business. From what Ive seen he is a very fast, tidy and professional blocklayer. Yes I know him personally but not well enough to get a cheaper price. And its not a cash price. Its all above board.

    No worries smashey. Feel free to lock this thread in case it gets out of hand. I have the information I asked for when opening this thread. I just needed an idea of price per block and the folks here have given me their opinions on the price I got which is great and what I needed.
