well guys im new to boards

i only started to play golf last year and am starting to really improve. Just wanted to know is there any drills for improving your downswing. My Backswing i think is good but have a tendency to be too quick with the arms on the downswing and pull the ball to the left

    Thanks for the help

I got a lesson last night and the pro was trying to get me to start my downswing by moving my left hip first. He reckons that the downswing is like a race between the shoulders and the hips. I used to have an awful problem of pulling the ball straight left. I tell you what helps me to stop hitting the ball left is to try and feel that i am hitting over a tree in front of me in otherwords trying to get the ball up.

The answer is in your question. If you do anything with your arms before the ball is hit, you are "too quick with the arms".

You should hit the ball by turning your hips, trunk and shoulders, once you have finished the backswing. After you have passed the ball, momentum carries your arms on to a finish.

But you're not alone. Most think they should hit the ball by swinging their arms - hence lots of weak, inconsistrent slicers out there.

Edit : your pull comes from the same fault - only you close the clubface to try to stop the ball curving right - ending up with a pull to the left. Because you are trying to hit the ball with your arms, the club goes outside the line of the ball and hits it from out to in. Clubface square - gou get a silce. Clubface closed - you get a straight pull.
