Sore Bits

Went for fairly intensive lesson on monday night and im as stiff as a poker since!! Particularly stiff areas are between my shoulder blades, down the front of my upper arms and across the top of my chest.

My stomach muscles and my corresponding back muscles right at the back of them are also very tight.

However my upper, inner thighs are the most sore/stiff part of me, now the reason im telling you this is i wondered if i must be riding incorrectly...
I do have a tendancy to 'Grip Up' with my knees which im afraid is resulting in the inner thighs being affected... Correct me if im wrong but i should be feeling stiff in my calves and not my thighs?

Were you doing lots of jumping? I always have incredibly painful quads after a lot of jumping/cross country.

I havent been riding in ages now, and I'm all soft and no muscle... its surprising how fit and strong one gets if looking after and riding horses every day. I cant wait to get back into it.

Ya im just aching all over, particularly my hamstings (didn't even realise girls had these!)

Im just getting back now too Fits and im delighted! Took a toss the other night but it was fairly harmless - horse stopped at jump and i went out over the handlebars! :D Managed to avoid falling into the jump and had a fairly soft landing on my bottom!

Trying to get another lesson tomorrow, everyone is telling me ill need loads before i should start riding Mandy, i at least want to tighten up a lot as she does not like a lot of movement on her back so no swinging legs or bouncing in the saddle!!

I was thinkin of buying an exercise ball and use it as a sofa, can practice balance and squeezing and things... Just an idea i had, would probably be of no benefit at all!!

Thats actually not a bad idea. Good riding requires (and builds) core fitness and I think those balls are pretty good for that.

I agree with your friends in a way. When you're riding fit you'll do a lot more justice to your youngster. I know that from experience as well.

Bendihorse your not riding incorrectly. Its just your muscles discovering themselves again!! Do some stretches before and after. Calf hanstring and quads for a few minutes. Makes the world of difference::)
