I have a wirless adapter which can see my router but i cannot gain access to the internet. I borrowed a friends laptop with built in wireless card and that had no problems.

I gained access previously through a cable modem, could there be a problem with the old settings? a conflict maybe?

    Any ideas?

Open the network properties for the Wireless Adapter.

    Check the TCP/IP Properties.

Make sure that it is set to Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and Obtian DNS Server address Automatically.

See if that makes any difference.

Can you access the Routers set-up menus from the laptop wirelessly?
