Canon 300D - Auto-focus problem?

    Hi,

I've had my 300D for almost 4 years and taken about a bazillion shots with it, but recently quite a few of the shots have been out of focus. I thought it was just me getting sloppy and then I though it was the new lens I got a little while back (Sigma 24-70 f2.8). But I've tried it with the standard kit lens (18-55mm) too and it's the same.

But I've been playing about setting the auto-focus to specific points and some of then are having definite trouble (not the centre one though). Either the camera hunts about the focus point of picks a different one altogether.

Has anyone seen this before? Do you think it's just dirt, the lenses or is it time to get priest and a shovel for the poor old thing?

    Could be dirt?

I've developed problems with one of my lenses, a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO, over the past while. In this case though I think it's the lens itself. It's become very slack to the extent that if it's switched to manual and pointed down, it won't hold focus. I'm reckoning when it's in AF mode this is also having an effect with the lens creeping just past the point of focus. All my other lenses are fine though. That said, I'd usually use the centre point for focusing

I'm hoping it is. Is this handy enough to clean yourself or should I get it done somwehere (where?).
I've gotten by so far by just squirting air into it, not sure if I'm brave enough to try anything else.

Just to make sure, before you go spending money...

Beside the viewfinder, there's a the diopter dial. This is quite easy to move.

Make sure the white dot on it lines up with the white dot on the camera.
