Well ,its up and away for the 'Pack

Scraped a win against Philly, but did the biz in the end.

Offense was poor especially on the ground but special teams came up to the mark.

However a win is a win and we look forward to the Giants game next week.

    Momentum, Momentum, Momentum...

Packers up against NYG today..... Flutter thinks they will not win this one ,based on the Giants Dallas game last week.

Like to see a good hardnosed display though, and a win is NOT outside the bounds of possibility.

Whats up with Bubba Franks... no longer the starting TE???

...based on the Giants Dallas game last week.

The Giants doesn't have a defence, Green Bay does. If the Pack gets any sort of offence going the game gets ugly real early. :) Green Bay by 20. :p

Fcuk me >>I didn't see 38 -13 coming or whatever..... great win and the D was good again.Offense was tight with only one pick from #4,and that was of a catchable ball.

Chargers next week in the 'Field... could be a season breaker.

    it gets better. 3-0 !!!!

I thought it was gone when GB were stopped on the one yard line.

Looks like this is a fairly serious team here.

First time in franchise history that they've started 3-0 against play-off teams.

Definitely not "garbage time" now!! :)

Leads all NFL with a 7 game win streak in regular season games.

This doesn't bode well for me - I bet my weeks wages with a friend that the Packers would lose this! Guess it's bread and water for a week so!

LOL. Don't look for sympathy in here, then. The bookies all had Chargers 5 pt favourites, so you were in good company. Maybe they'll get some respect now!

Ok ok pm me some Tommy K and I will eat my hat:)

Great start, but a little worried how easily SD rumbled in for two TD's on their first two possessions.Commentators said that the GB coverage was good so I won't dwell on that ,just perfect execution by SD on those two drives.

Now give me a few minutes to get this humble pie out of the Micro please.

Might be worth asking how good the chargers are at this point. They are struggling to move the ball on the ground.

Just unlucky the fact they started against 3 teams who can stop the run. Bears know how to stop the run Pats are no 1 at it and the Pack seem to have figured it out. Also doesnt help with Rivers still playing like a complete rookie and some very bad coaching decisions.

I'd still rate the Vikings a better run stopping team than the Patriots, our D line is the best in the league at it bar none.

Stats show that Ravens are #1 against the run with the Vikes at 3rd and Pats at 5th... I can see that finishing at Vikings #1 Ravens #2 and Patriots #3 after 16 games. Overall the Pats D is ranked #1 but against the run they are crap :D 5th? pfffft!

Vikings wont keep LT or the Chargers under 100 yards rushing when will you learn dude you guys suck big style :L :L

I'd say we will, and in style too!

We held LJ to 42 yards on 24 carries, now I know LJ hasnt been himself this season but those are impressive numbers... we also kept Warrick Dunn to 55 Norwood to 33 and we shut down the Lions running game completely.

Now we just have to shut down the Packers on Sunday... I predict a 21-17 win for the Vikings with 2 defensive touchdowns. 1 INT for a TD and 1 fumble return for a TD, both turnovers by number 4 :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Favre gets the record, as expected.

The reception from the Minnesota crowd was really amazing, very warm. You wouldn't get that at a soccer match.

    Defence is playing well.

They don't do it easy though!!!

Game iced leading 23-9...concede TD(good one) then fumble the football to give it back. Still 4-0... I'm not complaining.

The Chargers aren't much better. They just lost to KC. And they didn't even need the Sunshine Band.

Chargers (like the Aints) are having O-line issues. Superstars mean little if you don't have the heavies.

Fair play to the Pack Attack. Somewhat disappointing though as I was looking forward to taking the piss outta Coach. Ah well there's still time.

I was so hopeful of a comeback in the game but then I realised Kelly Holcomb was still at quarterback...

Don't know what Childress was thinking but when Adrian Peterson is rushing for 100 yards in the first half, you give him the bloody ball in the 2nd half! Instead he was in on kick returns, should have been handing the ball to All Day all day!

That guy is bloody good. I was having palpitations every time he got the ball. A win on the road in your own division is big.

Now if the Pack can only get their running game into gear...

Yes, the running game is non existant.Bye the way Ahman Green was inactive for the Texans last night.

Hopefully teams won't cotton on to the fact, and jam up the receivers big time.

Nice to see Bubba Franks getting a more prominent role catching instead of blocking.

Forgive my ignorance. Is this just a hot streak? Are they destined to collapse? Have they just played a few weak teams? Or are the Packers emerging as a team with a bright future? And if so, what's the change this season?

    Lot of questions there.

its not justa hot streak, its a hot streak... they are playing well at the moment.

Destined to collapse.. no i wouldnt say collapse.I still have some doubts about a winning season, but collapse, not this team.

Have they played weak teams.... no,however the tests will come later in the season.

team with a bright future.... very difficult to predict in the NFL,especially with an aging if still good QB.

Change this season. There were a lot of changes last year, new coach,O line was new,D line was new.

This year the lines have settled down and the LB corps is as good as you get also the secondary.

From the outset I predicted a .500 season, i am holding to that at the minute:cool:

That's the late night game. Starts at 0130 Monday morning.

.500? They did that last year with all that new personnel. As I said, and got laughed at for it, 13-3. Though I'll accept 11-5 and a play-off place.

Brett Favre aging? Nope he's not! He's still the same age as he was starting out in 1992. :p

I know it is a long way off - but I would love a GB - Patriots superbowl. It would be a chance for revenge. I remember the pain of watching the Patriots losing to GB in '96/97 SB. BF was the best quaterback by far that year, at the time we though Bledsoe was a future HOF QB too - how wrong we were.

    Ah.

As you may have guessed, I'm a Packers fan with limited handle on the details and the comparison with others. Relations live there, so the Packers were foisted on me in the 80s when they were poor enough (saved only by the fact that the Lions and Bucs were even worse). But I do know enough to know that I HATE the Bears...and Ditka's team and their Superbowl added to my dislike...

They have a comparatively easy schedule but I'm still surprised by how well they're doing. Hats off to them. I think teams have learned though that as well as being unable to run the ball they're finding it very difficult to stop the run. Minnesota piled up the yards running in the first half and then stopped which was a mistake by Childress.

Eh? Without Peterson's one biggie their stats would look a lot better. They have yet to concede a rushing TD. They kept Tomlinson and Westbrook fairly quiet. Most of the credit for Peterson's performance goes to Peterson, and shouldn't be viewed as a black mark against the Packers' run defence.

Very true, there was good blocking up front some of the time but he know's how to get it done when there isn't.

So far this season he is without a doubt the Rookie of the Year.

I hope the Pack continue with this success, in fact i'd go as far as saying I hope they win it all... that way Favre will definitely retire and we can start to win some games that we should be winning against the Pack :D

No. They do. Playing an Eagles team in disarray, a poor Giants team, a Chargers team in crisis, the Vikings who are poor twice, twice against a Bears team missing loads of defensive players and with no offence, the Rams who are 0-4, the Chiefs who are nobodies this year, a Panthers team that blows hot and cold, a Redskins team with a v inexperienced QB. They also have the Lions twice who everybody (except me:) ) is unsure about and a Broncos team that's banged up.

Hello...Eagles ,Giants, Chargers all playoff teams last year,Bears were at the 'Bowl!!!We are talking last seasons form here....

I do however think its way too early to be thinking SB. Lets wait until later in the season when things settle a bit. Pack are very lucky with injuries so far, lets hope all the key players stay healthy,as the back up seems thin.
With your man Culpepper gone i was fairly confident of a pack win in the HHHM but he is up to his old tricks in Oakland.

Pack always found him hard to handle

The team with the strongest strength of schedule is the Bills (53.9%). The Packers have compiled a 4-0 record against teams that had a combined 59% win/loss record last season! And next up: 13-3 Bears.

    Based on current season records:
    Colts 42.9%
    Packers 31.3%
    Patriots 25%
    Cowboys 18.8%

    Points to note:
Packers started 3-0 against 3 play-off teams, the first time in their history.
Packers have started 4-0 eight times in their history. Result: 6 NFL championships (incl 1 SB), 1 runner-up place and 1 wild card loss.

Another point to note: Chicago reached the superbowl on a 46.5% strength of schedule.

Im agreed with Packers have done well against decent team and fair play lets hope they keep it up but I hate those percentage type stats.

    Eagles 1-3
    Giants 2-2
    Chargers 1-3
    Vikes 1-3

    Same goes for Patriots schedule:

    Jets 1-3
    Chargers 1-3
    Bills 1-3
    Bengals 1-3

    And the Colts

    Saints 0-3
    Titans 2-1
    Texans 2-2
    Broncos 2-2

Each of the 3 teams has played a min of 2 teams you would have expected based on last season to be doing alot better this year but simple fact they aint. Only when the Patriots play the colts after maintaining their wins will I be happy that we are going to do it. Wins against any team is good but beating the current best is better. Judging by the nfc andhow the packers are playing I think playoffs is definitely high on their list with the bears being shocking at the moment a win on Sunday for Pack is not out of reach.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,260 ✭✭✭jdivision

The NFL is nicknamed Not For Long for a reason. Last season's performance is no guide to future performance. You look at who they have to play, how banged up they are and how they're playing. The team they've played with the best record is New York which should also be 1-3 but for the fact that Washington threw the game away at the end.
Are Chicago playing like a Super Bowl team? No. At the moment they're going to struggle to make the playoffs. They need to run more 2 TE sets to give Olsen more game time and added protection for the QB as the 0-line isn't playing well. They've lost four starters on defence and a few of those remaining are badly banged up. Anyway if I was Green Bay I'd be calling Corey Dillon or asking about Ricky Williams or trying anything to get a runner from somewhere.

As mentioned, Patriots are 4-0 against teams with a combined 4-12 and everybody seems to think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. All we have to go on is last year's form. That's what makes the strength of schedule.

This may surprise you, but the teams with winning records beat the teams with losing records (mostly), at least this early. The losing teams look bad, but is that only the Packers' opponents? Or are the Packers making them look bad. If they keep winning what excuses will you give. Oh yeah, weak schedule. As I said, the Bears reached the SB on the back of a 46.5% schedule.

I'd be very wary of drawing conclusions based on a couple of matches, but Green Bay look good. 8 game winning streak, read it and weep. :)

In fairness it is the way the Patriots are beating these teams. If you were to pit the Pack and Pats together right now the Patriots would win. Honestly there is 2 reasons why the Patriots wont make the superbowl they lose to the Colts in the championship game or they take a nose dive and lose loads of players to injury and fook up.

The additions in defence have strengthed the Pats once again and Moss and Welker have given Tom Brady something he lacked that quick route across the middle and an abosolute deep threat. And what Moss will bring is open up the other receivers when he gets double coverage. Also the Pats O-line has played phenomanil so far the time Brady has to throw. Colts - Pats AFC Championship game no doubt.
