    I joined a gym about 6 weeks ago. I was full of energy for the first few weeks, even after using the gym. But now im feeling tired? Is that normal?
    Is anything i can take to give me energy?

    Eat fruit about an hour before the gym for energy or pasta, rice or some other form of carb and fruit and protein after training to replace glucose and help your repair and recovery..

    you can get some "amino acids" from the likes of tony quinn health stores, their supposed to be good for energy and help burning fat, their just pills, i think ya take about 2 a day

    dont go to tq :mad: , go to a propper suplement store and by the way king (depending on which one of his staff you talk to) it's 12 a day

    12 a day are ya serious, jesus thats a bit much!! one of my mates works there and he said he used to set his alarm for about 2 in the mornin, wake up and throw 6 down his neck!! said it ripped him up good! to the OP, theres enrgy drinks such as "viper" too to give ya a boost, its a powder that mixes with water, cant say the taste is great tho :(

    Before you even begin to consider supplements you need to look at your diet. Post up a normal days' eating and when/ what you eat relative to going to the gym.

    The same thing happened to me a few weeks into starting in the gym. I started taking a multivitiman, they helped me to no end.

    Yep before I knew any better I went to TQ’s:rolleyes: and the guy told me to take 12 a day and if I wanted to I could take more:eek: (I read somewhere that they work on commission)

    I surprised they work on commission. They're staff must be on bread and water then because I never see anyone going into the one in Blanchrdstown. Seemed to be the place to work to catch up on your reading from what I see.

    Pharmaton capsules are good for energy but then so is your bog standard multi vitamin.

    The first time I tried Pharmaton (I was 15 I think) I took one in the morning and couldn't sit still all day.

    just routed out an old bottle of amino-or there and it says take 2 before bedtime, maybe yad need to be takin more to see results, theres only 60 in the bottle so you wouldnt get long takin 12 a day thats for sure!!

    Before you even begin to consider supplements you need to look at your diet. Post up a normal days' eating and when/ what you eat relative to going to the gym.

    Perhaps we can help with the tiredness but if you post your diet and regime we'll have a better idea how to advise you. You could be working too hard too soon, not eating right, or perhaps you're not resting properly (stress/lifestyle taking their toll)

    On days i go to the gym - 4 days a week. I get up at 9.30 and eat a big bowl of breakfast. Flavahans, Hi8 muesli. Go to the gym. I start work at 1 and before going to work i would normally eat dinner. Turkey & Ham, spuds, vegetables. Or a sandwhich with turkey or tuna and lettuce, tomatoe, peppers, onion, cucumber.
    And then another sandwhich at my break with the same. And my last break in work i eat another small bowl of cereal, flavahans Hi8. I love that cereal.

    lisajane you have a very carb-dominant diet that has little or no good fats in it. There's nothing inherently worng with what you're eating, you just need to add to it a bit and cut back on your muesli intake!!

    There's lots of info in the stickies about this but basically carbs are the 'energy' foods. But you need to balance that out with plenty of protein (from lean meats, milk, cheese, nuts and other dairy) and try and get some form of protein at every meal. This will help slow down the digestion of your food but speeds up your metabolism at the same time.

    Good fats from olive/ almond/ walnut/ sesame/ avocado/ flax oils and seeds, nuts, oily fish and avocados will also help give you prolonged energy release and maintain a healthy digestive system. Unfortunately lots of people are fat-phobic thanks to all the bad press that it gets but it's more that you need to watch the type of fat you eat and not the amount (as long as you don't over-eat it) that counts.

    Muesli in the morning is good, it's a complex carb and so will give you sustained energy. Don't be afraid to have a small snack mid-morning, you don't need to starve yourself before lunch! A piece of fruit and a small handful of nuts, or a tin of tuna is perfect.

    Does you meat/ potato/ veg lunch leave you quite full afterwards? I'd imagine if it's a large serving it probably would (Sunday-roast fatigue syndrome :p ) and so that may leave you a little lethargic going to the gym?

    Are all those sandwiches made with whihte or brown bread? Right after the gym is probably ok to have bread, but try and keep your later meals to protein and fats, not muesli. Salads, eggs, meats, fish, vegetables - any of these would be great.

    It's just a guess, but I'd imagine that the carb-heavy diet you have is sending your insulin on a bit of a rollercoaster and this results in you feeling tired and lacking in energy. Keeping your fluid intake up should also help too. From the looks of things though I don't think a multi-vitamin is really what you're looking for, there's no glaring deficiencies in micro-nutrients.

    My dinner does leave me full but its not a large dinner. My sandwhiches are made with brown bread. I do snack on nuts also. But only once or twice a week. And i drink loads of water. 3 litres a day. Im not sure if thats enough but its enough for me.
