Holiday ideas for wife's Birthday please

    Hi Everyone,

My wife is 30 next summer and although it's a bit early, I wanna start planning a present for her.
I'm thinking of a holiday, something different but not living on an American ranch for 2 weeks kind of different. Something different from 2 weeks in Salou or something.
I'm not a millionair so please don't suggest anything that involves our own team of servants and a private rooftop jacuzzi and helicoptor pad.
I want something special that's more than a cheap package holiday but less than the previously described cash sucker.
A holiday is the first thing that comes to mind, but if anyone has any other suggestions that might make a good present, please let me know.

    Thanks a million

    Jarvis:D

Before you give her the tickets to wherever, do this.

Buy a photograph album, and instead of photos put in captions.

"me and you at NICE PLACE 1"

"me and you in that nice restaurant we had dinner one night"

"me and you walking in that nice place"

    etc etc

then in the back of the photo album are the tickets to the place.

She'll love you even more if you do that.

    Guaranteed.

a spa holiday in Iceland ... its not cheap to get there though ...

Venice is really really nice ... nice little streets ... boat trips .. and so on ... and doesn't have to be that expensive ... quite cheap to fly there ... accommodation well that can range in price ... would be nice for a few days though ... then travel down to Rome ...

I did that 2 years ago .. and it was amazing ... Venice / Florence / Rome ...

but again it'd depend on what she likes ...

I'd second Venice myself. Its a lovely place but I think that a week/two weeks there might be a bit too long altogether.

OP - If you'd prefer to have this moved to the Travel forum let me know.

Wouldn't mind having it moved as I might get some good ideas there.
liked some of the ideas here, especially venice, we were supposed to go on a holiday around Italy a few years ago and visit Rome, Sorrento and Venice but we didn't do it for some reason. It might be nice to do that now so...

It would also be nice to do something in the U.S. anyone done any interesting trips there??

Might borrow that idea Des..sounds good.
Hope you don't mind but when she asks where I got the idea...I'm gonna say I thought of it myself!!!! sorry.

    Thanks again

It might be easier to make helpful suggestions if you gave some idea of what you like to do on holiday -- particularly your wife, because it's for her, isn't it, and you're just going along to carry the bags.

One thing a little bit different Herself and I enjoyed doing was a cruise along the Dalmatian coast in a motor schooner, going from Split to Dubrovnik and back. It didn't break the bank, either. But if you don't like the sea, it's not for you.

Give us a better brief, and you might get some suitable ideas.

A cruise out of florida to the caribean might be a good idea. Have a look at www.vacationstogo.com for cruises. Not as expensive as you think as you don't need car hire and the food is included, and you can also buy dutyfree gifts in some of the ports of call, remember you will "have" to pay about $10 per person gratuity for the week.

If you are looking for an action holiday try one of the royal caribean boats, went on the freedom of the seas, or for something more relaxed try Celebrity we were on the constellation, like having a 5 star hotel following you around.

On both of these you could manage with an inside cabin.

Aerlingus doing direct flights to Orlando next year. Also you could mix it with a week in Orlando.

Not sure of your Budget but if you posted up some Guidelines it might help.
