I received my 40d and battery grip from Albert Friday morning via DHL, as he was handing over the package he said I have to pay some vat, it was a heart stopper as he was checking his book for about 30 seconds, to my relief he said you owe DHL €6.50c I said phew with a smile. I asked the driver was i caught for vat and he said yes but Albert stated on the docket sample for testing not for resale to a value of $261

    Good on you Albert !!!

As I've said before here, this site would be a good training ground for revenue commissioners. Too much info IMO :(

Your quite lucky as anything marked "Commercial Sample" is fair game for cutoms,ie. they are allowed put it beyond fit for sale condition, for example if it was an Item of clothing they can mark it with a permanent marker etc, doesnt effect the garment physically but no-one would want to wear it.
Don't know how they would do that with electronics but I would be wary of having stuff shipped to you with things marked as samples.
    Still though....€6.50!

    I'm locking this thread tbh.

I don't want to see anyone get into any hassle with tax evasion, and I'd rather people didn't discuss it on boards.
