The only thing I'll miss are the Scrubs repeats but then there's always RTE,E4and Paramount. They've been showing the same two series of 8 Simple Rules for ages. It's about time they got rid of it.

always liked their channel ID's, really well designed and kind of soothing. No loss other than that. 8 Simple Rules was good but they have been showing the crappy post-Dad series for a long time as the previous poster said

There is is only so many repeats that people will tolerate.

Their odd break system was bizarre some times. I know it was a more US-like system, but they used to pick really weird moments to take a break.

Like with scrubs, they'd often start the show (which always has a pre-credit scene, sometimes a minute long, single joke bit, sometimes a few minutes in length) but they'd cut to a break in the middle of that scene and then come back to finish it off the scene and move into the credits... surely the sensible thing here would be to take the break at the start or end of the opening credits?

Anyway, other than Scrubs there was nothing worth watching on that channel and with E4 and Paramount showing Scrubs every day it's hardly a unique selling point.

I watched abc1 for a while but after seeing the same show twice or three times it was really annoying. They should have tried to secure exclusives of some shows to attract viewers.

Scrubs and JoHN Ritter- 8 simple rules were the only things worth watching , everything else was pure bottom of the trash comedy.Good ridance.

With the abc1 brand, I was expecting more.

Not a bit surprised it's going.

The whole taking two ad breaks in the middle of a programme is a right head wreck, especially having to hang around to see the last 90 seconds of a programme. I'll miss it though, seeing as how Home Improvement and Scrubs took up so much of the schedule it was kinda handy being able to flick over to it whenever nothing else was on.

How can you be happy that something closes down? Seriously. There's tons of stations I'd never watch but I'm happy enough just not turning them on.

Maybe you were addicted to it, and literally couldn't turn it off...

Because it takes up space that could potentially be filled by something, erm, better?

Its not like there's quality channels bursting to get on a platform

I couldn't watch the thing after their one good show ran through its lifetime, however the sisters at home love the bloody thing and its constantly hogging time that could be spent watching decent television.

    Thats how.

/dances little dance of joy. Again.

Anyone catch the ads for Virgin 1? Is that going to fill the gap I wonder?

ABC1 = Most channels on Sky, playing a very small collection of shows on a loop...

Won't be missed here, especially their ad structure (program starts, goes to ad early on, show is on to nearly the end, goes to ad, program finishes, next program starts) what was the point of it? It was still break every 15 minutes or so..

What's this Virgin1? Will it be good?

ABC1's intention was to replicate the original ad structure of the programme in the United States. It just freaked people out over here. Re the channel, it will be missed, but the Touchstone Television back catelogue will only get you so far.

Virgin 1 is a rebranded FTN which Virgin are aiming to challenge (or in the case of their own system, replace) Sky One. It'll replace FTN but no word on whether it will be available on UPC or Sky here for definite, depends whether they've been buying UK+Ireland rights to things. They will be showing the Terminator spin-off The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the Star Trek franchise, and all the James Bond films among others.

By the ads, it seems Virgin 1 will mostly be scripted content..........sounds promising........and they have The Unit :D

well what do you expect the channel became a farce when it started
to constantly rehashing episodes of 8 simple rules home improvement
and hope & faith week after week and if you want to put it to this stand
point abc1 became stale after they continued by removing great programming like sports night moonlighting and mad about you
and people got fed up with abc1 and started to turn over and
the channel keeping making blunder after blunder including showing
a scene from one episode for the next program caption and showing an completley
differant one disney should have acted on this to say that they syndicated abc1 and did something about it but they did not until it was to late
abc1 realy should be a network channel that cattered everyone and
they simply let the viewers down and i am not surprised that abc1 has gone to the failed tv & sattelite channels grave and i have no sympathy
with abc1 when they became shambolic.
